Even though the men who work at the airport, including Joe-Joe’s dad, were promised flying jobs, the owner refuses to let them fly. The town of Blind Eye has lost hope over the men’s heartbreak and the injustice being done to them, so much so that the moon won’t shine down on it any longer. More than anything, Joe-Joe wants to bring the moon back to Blind Eye so he can return hope to the townspeople. This is an extraordinary storybook about lost hope and what can happen when dreams are allowed to flourish.

Joe-Joe's father works at the local airport, and he's wanted to fly since the first time he saw a plane in the air. But even though the men who work at the airport were promised flying jobs, the owner refuses to let them fly, and they've lost hope that they'll ever get their chance. Their sadness spreads over the town and forms a cloud so thick even the moonlight and stars can't break through. But on one magical night, little Joe-Joe takes his first plane ride and he's got a plan: he's going to talk to that moon and lure her back to Blind Eye so the townsfolk can be happy again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It started as a suggestion from our grief group leader to start journaling. It was formed when I joined a small writing group in Beverlys living room and we got the assignment to write Who are you now? and then to write Who were you before that? and Who were you......... and fi fteen before thats later I had the outline of this book. Th e telling became compelling as I worked over the four years and chronicled my story. I tell it because it affi rms for me who I am and maybe later generations will want to know something of where they came from. In the beginning my grandparents came into Oklahoma when it was Indian Territory and participated in the journey to statehood. Th e changes that took place between the time my mother was born in 1898 and when she died one hundred and fi ve years later are hard to imagine. She lived in three centuries and this story lives in these three centuries. Being a mother and enjoying two sons that are a joy to me to this day is a rich part of my life story and this part of my telling is a joy to remember. Th e love of two gifted men blessed my tale and fi lls me with appreciation for both of them. Th e three children from the second marriage are an amazing gift. What it meant to be a woman, wife and mother changed and morphed as I grew from childhood to an eighty- eight year old woman and I had the opportunity to work with women of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as we began to struggle with issues that impacted our homes, schools, churches and political institutions. Retirement bloomed into ten great years exploring the United States and Canada and also helping the fi ve children that now form my family. Many hours of helping to redo, remodel and restore helped build relationships and gave me many special memories. Th is story of I am Jo/Jo am I is one womans story of life, love, learning and living toward the end. I am still doing it!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This much-needed book will help schools and, by extension, society to better understand and identify the promise, potential, and possibilities of Black boys. Drawing from their wealth of experience in early childhood education, the authors present an asset- and strengths-based view of educating Black boys. This positive approach enables practitioners and school leaders to recognize, understand, and cultivate the diversity of social skills of Black boys in the early grades (pre-K–3rd grade). Each chapter begins with a vignette to illustrate what is lost when Black boys are prevented from participating freely in boyhood, having to instead attend to adult and peer interactions and attitudes that view them as “bad boys” and “troublemakers.” This accessible book provides teachers with classroom strategies to help young Black boys achieve their highest potential, along with other resources for supporting their social-emotional development, such as a reading list of authentic multicultural children’s books with Black boys as protagonists. “The Brilliance of Black Boys claims new ground to advance knowledge and practice that can change the narrative about Black boys and their early schooling.” —From the Foreword by James Earl Davis, Temple University “Wright’s uncommon insight into the world of Black boys unveils a new narrative and gives educators a formula for turning opportunity into advantage.” —Carol Brunson Day, past president, NAEYC “The Brilliance of Black Boys provides counter-stories, theories, paradigms, and resources to skillfully illustrate the strengths of Black boys. Readers will not be disappointed.” —Donna Y. Ford, Vanderbilt University

Three years later, under the name "Nighthawks," the band began broadcasting experimental, highly-popular midnight radio programs over Kansas City's WDAF. Their music was played all over the world, and the band remained one of America's top bands until Coon's death in 1932. Here is the complete history of the Coon-Sanders Orchestra, the band whose saucy, and bustling music and carefree and extravagant musicians symbolized the era between World War I and the Great Depression.
