Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Even now, God's ways still remain mysterious to me..." Raiza Garcia, author of Jesus and Jiu Jitsu: The Rise of a Warrior of God, believes the Christian walk is the most exciting adventure one can embark on; read on to discover why. This Christian memoir reveals God's presence in all life's events. Inside, readers discover God in the midst of the storm... "I found my life shattered into pieces. I was 8 weeks pregnant with a baby and tumor fighting for space in my uterus, a broken marriage on the brink of divorce, jobless, and sinking quickly into a dark suicidal depression. Jesus came to my rescue. Through the journey of faith, professional counseling, and the gift of jiu jitsu, God has helped me rise from the ashes into a blessed season of co-parenting and walking in recovered virtue as a single mom on fire for the Lord." Through Raiza's fledgling, then growing Christian faith, God was there. Finally today, it is evident that God is there, through Raiza's love of jiu jitsu and teaching at-risk children, which led her to use her platform to speak out against the horrors of sex trafficking, neglect, and other types of abuse that happen to children in the child welfare system. God is there, and He brings life to Raiza's ministry endeavors as she uses her voice and community to help others. Readers will love this transparent memoir of a worldly, turbulent existence turned Christ-rooted life that beautifully weaves God moments into a transformed life. Raiza's journey is a powerful testimony of grace and redemption.

Book excerpt: The grappling art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is often seen as a spiritual practice for those that regularly train. Practitioners claim to undergo a personal transformation that enables growth towards greater harmony within themselves and among humanity. The experience of growth within oneself and towards humanity corresponds to Paul Tillich's theological concepts of the Kingdom of God and the New Being. The Kingdom of God is characterized by individuals whom possess a harmony within themselves, and in turn, successfully live in harmony among a diversity of others. Jesus the Christ, known as the New Being, is conceived as the ultimate symbol of the human potential. Jesus was the Christ through his actualized inner disposition of harmony within the time and space of existence; Jesus the Christ's inner disposition corresponds to characteristics of the symbol of God as self-surrender to the other. Jesus the Christ's inner disposition is reflected by outward actions, titled agape. While Tillich's theology of the New Being and the Kingdom of God is a fair response to philosophy's questions of anxiety and angst found in the human condition, it is limited to explain how an individual manifests the New Being for her or himself; how is an individual to become like Jesus the Christ and also reflect agape? Through a critical analysis of Tillich's theology in relation to personal transformation experienced in the practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a trinitarian perspective explicit in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be presented to provide guidance towards manifestation of the New Being in the time and space of existence.

Book excerpt: We are going to the gym and training hard; cardiovascular exercise, bulking up, leaning out, to achieve the perfect body and outer beauty. It is written in the Bible that physical exercise is good for us, but we should exercise ourselves to be godly for everlasting results, and to be in line with God. We should train our spiritual mind even more than our physical body. Are you in shape both spiritually and physically? Our body declines with age, sickness and injuries, but faith in God can carry us through these tough times. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful." 2 Timothy 4:7, NLT "As a pastor, it is a real joy to watch a person grow daily. To actually work with Stephane in ministry or listen to him give testimony, in small group or as a guest speaker was over the top for a friend and coach. This book is a great start to what God has done and a real statement of His grace to those that choose to walk with him. Men, read this and don't do your journey alone..." Pastor Bobby Thirsk, Executive Pastor, Westside Kings Church, Calgary, AB "Stephane Therrien is a true man of God. He learned many lessons in the sweat and blood of mixed martial arts but his life changed when he met the toughest warrior of all...Jesus Christ. His story is an inspiring testimony of how God can take the warrior heart and transform it for his purpose. Let Stephane take you on a heartfelt journey from ringside to the altar in his book The Refining Journey of a Warrior. Through his pages he tells the story of how a hard slugging fighter was turned from a hard living mixed martial artist into a loving husband, father, and a man on fire for God. I am privileged to call this man a friend and am certain that in reading his story you will feel like you know him as well. Sit back and enjoy the ride and let God put you 'under construction.'" Powerful forces want to destroy you and those you love. Completely surrounded, you see no means to escape. Sadly, the Jesus we often picture is too timid to help—more like a daytime talk show host than a dangerous Rescuer. Who would follow—much less risk everything—for such a leader? Get ready to see Jesus like you’ve never seen him before—a battle-scarred Combatant who stared death in the face and won. This is no Sunday-school Jesus, meek and mild. This is the Warrior Christ who has descended from the heavens, defeated the Enemy, and rescued humanity. Now, he calls us to continue his mission and fight for others—our families, our communities, and the world. In Jesus Was an Airborne Ranger, Army Chaplain John McDougall offers an alternative to the soft, gentle caricature of Jesus. Only the Warrior Christ can impact our broken world. And only in following him can you find the life of purpose you’ve always wanted. SUIT UP. It’s time to enter the fight with the first and greatest Airborne Ranger. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking book, Dennis R. MacDonald offers an entirely new view of the New Testament gospel of Mark. The author of the earliest gospel was not writing history, nor was he merely recording tradition, MacDonald argues. Close reading and careful analysis show that Mark borrowed extensively from the Odyssey and the Iliad and that he wanted his readers to recognise the Homeric antecedents in Mark's story of Jesus. Mark was composing a prose anti-epic, MacDonald says, presenting Jesus as a suffering hero modeled after but far superior to traditional Greek heroes. Much like Odysseus, Mark's Jesus sails the seas with uncomprehending companions, encounters preternatural opponents, and suffers many things before confronting rivals who have made his house a den of thieves. In his death and burial, Jesus emulates Hector, although unlike Hector Jesus leaves his tomb empty. Mark's minor characters, too, recall Homeric predecessors: Bartimaeus emulates Tiresias; Joseph of Arimathea, Priam; and the women at the tomb, Helen, Hecuba, and Andromache. And, entire episodes in Mark mirror Homeric episodes, including stilling the sea, walking on water, feeding the multitudes, the Triumphal E
