Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Trace Analysis by Liquid Chromatography focuses on high-performance liquid chromatography in the field of formulations analysis, which includes quality control of pharmaceutical preparations, pesticide formulations, cosmetics, and food colors. This book explores the application of liquid chromatography to trace analysis. Organized into 10 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the special requirements of liquid chromatography for trace analysis. This text then compares the approach to gas chromatography and formulations analysis, noting the significant difference. Other chapters consider the liquid chromatography equipment and examine the best types and conditions of instrumentation suitable for trace analysis. This book discusses as well the chromatography theory and includes descriptive accounts of the principles of the different forms of chromatography. The final chapter describes the typical approaches that are used for trace analysis. This book is a valuable resource for analysts engaged in the determination of trace organics in many various substrates.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an updated, completely revised version of a previous volume in this series entitled: ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS -- Techniques, applications and quality assurance. The book treats different aspects of environmental analysis such as sample handling and analytical techniques, the applications to trace analysis of pollutants (mainly organic compounds), and quality assurance aspects, including the use of certified reference materials for the quality control of the whole analytical process. New analytical techniques are presented that have been developed significantly over the last 6 years, like solid phase microextraction, microwave-assisted extraction, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometric methods, immunoassays, and biosensors. The book is divided into four sections. The first describes field sampling techniques and sample preparation in environmental matrices: water, soil, sediment and biota. The second section covers the application areas which are either based on techniques, like the use of gas chromatography-atomic emission detection, immunoassays, or coupled-column liquid chromatography, or on specific application areas, like chlorinated compounds, pesticides, phenols, mycotoxins, phytotoxins, radionuclides, industrial effluents and wastes, including mine waste. Validation and quality assurance are described in the third section, together with the interpretation of environmental data using advanced chemometric techniques. The final section reports the use of somewhat advanced analytical methods, usually more expensive, less routinely used or less developed, for the determination of pollutants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There Is Growing Awareness Of Environmental Pollution, But The Problem Of Abatement And Control Remains Unsolved. This Is Due To Lack Of Knowledge In Monitoring Methodology And Control Measures In Our Teaching Programmes. An Attempt Is Made In This Book To Fill Up This Gap.The Introductory Chapter Covers Grim Picture Of Pollution In India And Abroad. This Is Followed By Discussion On Choice Of Methods Of Monitoring And Brief Account Of Modern Methods Of Environmental Analysis. The Consideration Of Air Pollution Will Not Be Complete Without The Knowledge Of Air Pollution Meterology And Monitoring And It Is Covered In Next Few Chapters. The Water Pollution Not Only Considers Mode Of Analysis But Also Of Treatment. The Challenging Problem Is Posed By Industrial Effluent And Sewage From The Viewpoint Of Treatment And Control. Agricultural Pollution Largely Encompasses Ill Effects Of Pesticides Which Are Separately Discussed. The Solid Waste, Hazardous Waste And Biomedical Waste Are New Problems Of This Century. An Upto Date Account On Their Characteristion, Treatment And Disposal Are Given Next Chapters. Noise Pollution. Thermal Pollution. Radiation Hazards Have Their Own Role To Play. Their Abetment Is Must. Inspite Of Collecting Large Data On Pollution, Future Planning And Control Cannot Be Undertaken Without The Knowledge Of Environmental Impact Assessment And Environmental Modelling. These Topics Are Briefly Covered At End Of Book. This Book Should Be Indispensable For Graduate And Post-Graduate Programmes In Environmental Science And Engineering With Due Emphasis On Monitoring And Control. Adequate References Are Provided In Each Chapter And Also In Bibliography. This Will Help Serious Workers In Environmental Technology, Practicing Chemist, And Environmental Engineers.

Book excerpt: Environmental Monitoring theme is a component of Encyclopedia of Environmental and Ecological Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. The Theme on Environmental Monitoring is largely concerned with strategies in the preparation of environmental impact assessments, as well as in many circumstances in which human activities carry a risk of harmful effects on the natural environment.. All monitoring strategies and programmes on environment have reasons and justifications which are often designed to establish the current status of an environment or to establish trends in environmental parameters. The content of the Theme provides the essential aspects and a myriad of issues that are great relevance to our world with respect to environmental monitoring. These two volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College Students Educators, Professional Practitioners, Research Personnel and Policy Analysts, Managers, and Decision Makers and NGOs
