Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book for architects, designers, planners, and urbanites that explores how cities can embrace improvisation to improve urban life The built environment in today's hybrid cities is changing radically. The pervasiveness of networked mobile and embedded devices has transformed a predominantly stable background for human activity into spaces that have a more fluid behavior. Based on their capability to sense, compute, and act in real time, urban spaces have the potential to go beyond planned behaviors and, instead, change and adapt dynamically. These interactions resemble improvisation in the performing arts, and this book offers a new improvisation-based framework for thinking about future cities. Kristian Kloeckl moves beyond the smart city concept by unlocking performativity, and specifically improvisation, as a new design approach and explores how city lights, buses, plazas, and other urban environments are capable of behavior beyond scripts. Drawing on research of digital cities and design theory, he makes improvisation useful and applicable to the condition of today's technology-imbued cities and proposes a new future for responsive urban design.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policy-makers are increasingly concerned about the impact of climate variability and change on the health of vulnerable populations. Variations and trends in climatic factors and extreme weather events impact many health outcomes, including malaria, heat stress and undernutrition. Climate Information for Public Health Action is based on the premise that climate knowledge and information can help protect the public from climate-sensitive health risks. With a focus on infectious disease, hydro-meteorological disasters and nutrition, the book explores why, when and how data on the historical, current and future (from days to decades) climate can be incorporated into health decision-making. Created as a collaborative effort between climate and health experts, this book targets a broad technical public health community, alongside development practitioners and policy-makers engaged in climate change adaptation. It may also guide climate experts in the development of climate services tailored to health needs. Written in an accessible, informative style, while maintaining the highest technical and scientific standards, it will also be a valuable resource for students and academics studying and working in the emerging field of environment and health. This book was released on 2022-12-25 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ["Version: Dec 2022"] ► OVERVIEW: ♦ An "information-including medicine" is a material that the rendition of its respective physical information via a certain part of the living system termed "parallel body" leads to its corresponding biotic qualities in the living being. Viremedy, homeopathic medicines, and the so-called intentional healing medicines are among such medicines. ♦ Viremedy, as a basic remedy, could raise the vitality of the living creature within the framework of its nature. A rise in vitality means "a general increase in the fulfillment degree of biotic capabilities, such as resistance (resilience) to exogenous and endogenous stresses, in the broad sense". This basic remedy improves the natural regulatory and healing operations. ♦ In this text, allowing for the related facts and experiments, "the Physical Essence" and "the Mechanisms of the Actions" of information-including medicines have been generally explicated by putting forward a working theory. Additionally, "Viremedy", "its Origin", and some relevant topics have been presented. These topics are also included: "Some Controlled Experiments Conducted About any Effects of Viremedy on Vitality"; "Some Points About the Holistic Healing Process Actuated by Viremedy Use"; "Some Application Methods of Viremedy"; "The Possible Use of Other Treatments Together With Viremedy". (What is entitled the "Improved Homeopathy" has been briefly introduced in this synopsis as well.) ♦♦ As a rule, facts, rather than words, are the final judge. /●●●/ ► Information-including medicines are broadly used in practice in some therapeutic modalities like homeopathy, etc. ♦ There are controversial discussions about such medicines and the related topics. For instance, in view of the high dilution of homeopathic medicines, sometimes beyond Avogadro’s Limit, some scholars have considered them the inert substances called Placebo, having no specific virtue! Oppositely, some others have counted homeopathy as a credible therapeutic modality. ♦ Here, regarding an interdisciplinary approach, "the Physical Essence" and "the Mechanisms of the Actions" of information-including medicines have been generally clarified by putting forward a comprehensive theory. In light of this theory, the related facts can be explained and the results of some related experiences can be methodically predicted. Allowing for this theory, we can also find suitable ways for "the reproduction and the reinforcement of the special information-including remedy named Viremedy", "keeping this remedy in appropriate conditions", "the various methods of Viremedy application", and "the apposite application of other treatments, like homeopathic treatments, together with this remedy". ♦ Viremedy is Not a Monopolistic Production or Finding of any Person or Group. ♦♦ Most of all, facts, like the results of the appropriate controlled experiences suitably designed and performed to correctly evaluate the degree of vitality, are the final judge. /●●●/ ► SOME RELATED DOMAINS: Health and Medical Sciences, Integrative Medicine, Holistic Medicine, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Parallel Body Medicine, Information Medicine, So-called Energy Medicine, Homeopathy, Improved Homeopathy, Healing, Natural Medicine (Naturopathic Med.), Vitherapy, Holism, Information-including Medicines, Modern Physics, Evidence-based Medicine /●●●/ NOTIFICATION: ►► This book in paperback and Kindle formats can be bought from "AMAZON". ♦♦ All sales revenue of the book, the author’s share, will be spent on the activities involving Viremedy and the related matters like accomplishing the studies, improving Viremedy use, etc. - Citation: Esmaeili, Kamyar: «Information-including Medicines; Physics and Mechanism of Action (With Emphasis on "Viremedy") A Synopsis [Subtitle: Viremedy, Homeopathic Medicines, and the So-called Intentional Healing Medicines]». Book excerpt: This is the second edition of Wil van der Aalst’s seminal book on process mining, which now discusses the field also in the broader context of data science and big data approaches. It includes several additions and updates, e.g. on inductive mining techniques, the notion of alignments, a considerably expanded section on software tools and a completely new chapter of process mining in the large. It is self-contained, while at the same time covering the entire process-mining spectrum from process discovery to predictive analytics. After a general introduction to data science and process mining in Part I, Part II provides the basics of business process modeling and data mining necessary to understand the remainder of the book. Next, Part III focuses on process discovery as the most important process mining task, while Part IV moves beyond discovering the control flow of processes, highlighting conformance checking, and organizational and time perspectives. Part V offers a guide to successfully applying process mining in practice, including an introduction to the widely used open-source tool ProM and several commercial products. Lastly, Part VI takes a step back, reflecting on the material presented and the key open challenges. Overall, this book provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in process mining. It is intended for business process analysts, business consultants, process managers, graduate students, and BPM researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This encyclopedia will be an essential resource for our times, reflecting the fact that we currently are living in an expanding data-driven world. Technological advancements and other related trends are contributing to the production of an astoundingly large and exponentially increasing collection of data and information, referred to in popular vernacular as “Big Data.” Social media and crowdsourcing platforms and various applications ― “apps” ― are producing reams of information from the instantaneous transactions and input of millions and millions of people around the globe. The Internet-of-Things (IoT), which is expected to comprise tens of billions of objects by the end of this decade, is actively sensing real-time intelligence on nearly every aspect of our lives and environment. The Global Positioning System (GPS) and other location-aware technologies are producing data that is specific down to particular latitude and longitude coordinates and seconds of the day. Large-scale instruments, such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), are collecting massive amounts of data on our planet and even distant corners of the visible universe. Digitization is being used to convert large collections of documents from print to digital format, giving rise to large archives of unstructured data. Innovations in technology, in the areas of Cloud and molecular computing, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing (NLP), to name only a few, also are greatly expanding our capacity to store, manage, and process Big Data. In this context, the Encyclopedia of Big Data is being offered in recognition of a world that is rapidly moving from gigabytes to terabytes to petabytes and beyond. While indeed large data sets have long been around and in use in a variety of fields, the era of Big Data in which we now live departs from the past in a number of key respects and with this departure comes a fresh set of challenges and opportunities that cut across and affect multiple sectors and disciplines, and the public at large. With expanded analytical capacities at hand, Big Data is now being used for scientific inquiry and experimentation in nearly every (if not all) disciplines, from the social sciences to the humanities to the natural sciences, and more. Moreover, the use of Big Data has been well established beyond the Ivory Tower. In today’s economy, businesses simply cannot be competitive without engaging Big Data in one way or another in support of operations, management, planning, or simply basic hiring decisions. In all levels of government, Big Data is being used to engage citizens and to guide policy making in pursuit of the interests of the public and society in general. Moreover, the changing nature of Big Data also raises new issues and concerns related to, for example, privacy, liability, security, access, and even the veracity of the data itself. Given the complex issues attending Big Data, there is a real need for a reference book that covers the subject from a multi-disciplinary, cross-sectoral, comprehensive, and international perspective. The Encyclopedia of Big Data will address this need and will be the first of such reference books to do so. Featuring some 500 entries, from "Access" to "Zillow," the Encyclopedia will serve as a fundamental resource for researchers and students, for decision makers and leaders, and for business analysts and purveyors. Developed for those in academia, industry, and government, and others with a general interest in Big Data, the encyclopedia will be aimed especially at those involved in its collection, analysis, and use. Ultimately, the Encyclopedia of Big Data will provide a common platform and language covering the breadth and depth of the topic for different segments, sectors, and disciplines.
