Book excerpt: A survey of the amphibians of the Sylamore Ranger District, Ozark National Forest, Arkansas, was conducted from May 1969 through April 1971. The study was based on the examination of 421 specimens collected in the study area. These include 371 specimens collected by the author, 42 specimnes from the Memphis State University Museum of Zoology, and eight specimens from the Arkansas State University herpetological collection. Questionnaires sent to 37 other colleges and universities and five museums revealed no specimens from the district. A review of the literature inidicated that 26 species and subspecies possibly occur there, 19 of which were verified. Two species collected during this study, Plethodon cinereus cinereus and Rana sylvatica sylvatica, had not been previously reported from north central Arkansas.
