Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the book "Mental Illnesses - Understanding, Prediction and Control" attention is devoted to the many background factors that are present in understanding public attitudes, immigration, stigma, and competencies surrounding mental illness. Various etiological and pathogenic factors, starting with adhesion molecules at one level and ending with abuse and maltreatment in childhood and youth at another level that are related to mental illness, include personality disorders that sit between mental health and illness. If we really understand the nature of mental illness then we should be able to not only predict but perhaps even to control it irrespective of the type of mental illness in question but also the degree of severity of the illness in order to allow us to predict their long-term outcome and begin to reduce its influence and costs to society. How can we integrate theory, research evidence, and specific ways to deal with mental illness? An attempt will be made in the last conclusive chapter of this volume.

Book excerpt: There is an existing gap currently in the academic discourse pertaining to the treatment of juveniles before, during and after their conflict with the law. This book attempts to identify this lacuna in the Indian juvenile justice system and study its impact on our children. It remedies this crucial gap by juxtaposing 'what is' with 'what ought to be' by analysing the results of a study conducted in observation homes and special homes in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. The data was studied on parameters which reflect upon all aspects of the life and experiences of juveniles before their conflict with the law, inside the homes as well as their post-release prospects. This data was then tested vis-à-vis the requirements of the standard of living, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration mandated under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, as well as the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. Presenting a comprehensive account, the book further details the amendments in the juvenile justice laws after the Nirbhaya case and offers a critique to it on the grounds of both descriptive realities as well as the current normative understanding of juvenile justice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mississippi University for Women was a pioneer in the Southeast Region as well as the State of Mississippi in encouraging, promoting, and sponsoring intercollegiate athletics for women. The programs were always of the highest quality and conducted with integrity. The students and coaches involved were dedicated and committed to their respective sport. Loss of the Physical Education Assembly Building, destroyed by a tornado in 2002, and the subsequent decision (2003) by the university to cease participation in intercollegiate athletics prompted the writing of this book. Physical resources and historical records had been destroyed. Concern that the knowledge of this program would be lost along with its signifi cance to the university alumnae, and womens sport history, challenged five retired Health and Kinesiology faculty members to write this book. They knew that their collective knowledge and experiences were invaluable in recording a century of athletic competition at the W. These women promoted the educational model of sport believing that the opportunity to participate in sports brings both value and pleasure to the quality of life.
