Book excerpt: Growing Old Sucks! We've all said it. Sure, there are some bad things about getting older, but the good things far outweigh the bad. As we age, we gain experience and wisdom (at least some of us do), we mellow and ripen (some of us smell like old cheese too) and we have freedoms that we never had while we were young. Growing Old Sucks is a set of tips and topics designed to help you have the best years of your life. This is not an anti-aging book. Anti-aging just doesn't make sense. If you stop aging, it means you're dead. If you reverse aging is that reliving your 20s? Do you really want to go there - but not have the years of experience you have? Growing Old Sucks shows people over 50 how to have fun and dance through the rest of your life. From sex to dining, relationships to work, Growing Old Sucks illustrates how you can have the life you've always wanted. This is the best time of your life. Most importantly, this book will show you how to age with attitude, taking a stand that growing old really doesn't suck!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is just a few years ago that I started to write this book! Its Official! Growing Old Sucks! My intent was simply to appeal to older folks of sixty-five years and older who have let their physical and mental muscles go to hell in a hand basket! However, I have to say at that point in time that I did not have a lot of enthusiasm or intensity for the task, which is why the book remained unfinished! However, my life was turned upside down when my wonderful big sister fell victim to Alzheimers, such a devastating illness! My sisters demise brought me to the shocking realization that many older people who, just like my sister, have not bothered to make any effort to maintain some level of physical and/or mental fitness could quite possibly fall victim to the same fate! In that instant, I realized that although I could do nothing to help my sister, I felt obligated to do anything in my power to help the Alzheimer Foundation do whatever it could to hopefully find a cure at some point for this devastating illness! What sprang from the realization that I needed to do something was what had been missing for several years! My all-empowering why! From that point, that awesome power enabled me to become energized, not only to finish writing this book, but it also empowered me to get my body and my mind into the best physical condition of my life! I now look and feel like a man in my forties! However, what truly inspires me is the fact that I now have a tried-and-tested formula to help other older folks to also get into the best shape of their adult lives! Come join my crusade, and follow my lead! Theres plenty more room for you to become energized and to be in the best shape of your adult life too! Just as I have done!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You know somebody who's getting old? Well, "Getting Old Sucks!" is for them; a collection of stories and observations from Ernie del Santo, a Chicago-born grandfather, husband, bowler, and a cranky old man with a heart of ... well, not gold; maybe bronze. Ernie tackles life and old age head-on, and sometimes it tackles him back. He likes to quote the Latin phrase "Illegitimus non carborundum est" which means "Don't let the bastards grind you down." Sometimes they do, and Ernie has the scars to prove it. Ernie loves his wife Marie, pasta, his family and friends, his dog Rocky Balboa, and his team The Five Aces. And he doesn't hold his tongue as he tells stories of raising kids, going to the doctor for a 'procedure' (in the chapter "Colonoscopy My Ass"), his bucket list, and hanging out with his friends and teammates for a few laughs ... or to say goodbye to an old friend. If you have six pair of reading glasses and can't find any of them, or if you've ever heard your shoulder crack when you throw the ball to your dog, you know what Ernie means when he says "Getting Old Sucks!" Illustrated by Thomas Cain.

In my particular journey, there are so many things my mother didnt tell me! Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling Why We Suck comes a searing comic look at these divisive times, skewering liberals and conservatives alike with a signature dose of sarcasm and common sense. In an America so gluten-free that a box of jelly donuts is now a bigger threat than Vladimir Putin, where college kids are more afraid of Ann Coulter than HIV, it’s time for someone to stand up and make us all smell the covfefe. Dr. Denis Leary is that guy. With Why We DON’T Suck: And How All of Us Need to Stop Being Such Partisan Little Bitches, Denis is on a devoted mission to #MakeAmericaLaughAgain. Using the clamorous political atmosphere as a starting point, he takes a bipartisan look at the topics we all hold so dear to our patriotic hearts—including family, freedom, and the seemingly endless search for fame and diet vodka. Denis will answer important questions like: When will Hillary blame herself? Why does Beyoncé think he’s Bryan Adams? And why doesn’t he follow the millennial lead and post pictures of his food on social media? (Spoiler alert: He’s too busy actually eating it.) Not that Denis has anything against millennials: “When it comes to science, math, and technological advances, this generation has done more in three and a half decades than any other age group in history. What did my generation do? Cocaine and quaaludes mostly. With a side order of really stupid haircuts.” Dr. Leary is here to remind us of what truly makes America great, even though we’re #7 on the most recent list of Best Countries to Live In. Which may sound bad but means we still make the playoffs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Confessional and often hilarious, in Normal Sucks a neuro-diverse writer, advocate, and father meditates on his life, offering the radical message that we should stop trying to fix people and start empowering them to succeed Jonathan Mooney blends anecdote, expertise, and memoir to present a new mode of thinking about how we live and learn—individually, uniquely, and with advantages and upshots to every type of brain and body. As a neuro-diverse kid diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD who didn't learn to read until he was twelve, the realization that that he wasn’t the problem—the system and the concept of normal were—saved Mooney’s life and fundamentally changed his outlook. Here he explores the toll that being not normal takes on kids and adults when they’re trapped in environments that label them, shame them, and tell them, even in subtle ways, that they are the problem. But, he argues, if we can reorient the ways in which we think about diversity, abilities, and disabilities, we can start a revolution. A highly sought after public speaker, Mooney has been inspiring audiences with his story and his message for nearly two decades. Now he’s ready to share what he’s learned from parents, educators, researchers, and kids in a book that is as much a survival guide as it is a call to action. Whip-smart, insightful, and utterly inspiring—and movingly framed as a letter to his own young sons, as they work to find their ways in the world—this book will upend what we call normal and empower us all.
