Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to explicate the problematic relationship between the heterogeneity of what is experienced as beautiful and the homogeneity of the conceptualization of that experience, or attempt at such a conceptualization in the era of modern philosophy. While the heterogeneity of what is experienced as beautiful was permitted, and indeed celebrated, in the dominant ancient conception--for example, in the Symposium and Phaedrus of Plato--the need for homogenization in the later appropriation of Plato and in the Enlightenment period relegated the beautiful to the privileged domain of artworks. In her analysis Agnes Heller provides a unique and significant emphasis on the original 'life content' of the experience of the beautiful, which becomes lost in the modern system of the arts. This book details the history of the concept of the beautiful, starting with what Agnes Heller distinguishes between the 'warm' metaphysics of beauty and the 'cold' one--inspired by Plato's Janus-faced relationship to beauty--and ending with a fragmented yet hopeful vision propagated by Friedrich Nietzsche, Walter Benjamin, and Theodor W. Adorno, among others. In between these two historical parentheses--the metaphysical Plato on one hand and the post-metaphysical Nietzsche, Benjamin, and Adorno on the other hand--lay a plenitude of figures and intellectual developments, all of which contributed to the demise of the concept of the beautiful in the Western metaphysical tradition. The most important of these figures and developments are examined in this book.

One thing you have yet to discover is the joy of being a blessing to others George Hanna possesses a broad belief system based on the Bible, not humanism. It is with that in mind that he shares a volume of poetic art that illuminates the joys, sorrows, and uncertainties that accompany a journey through life. Through his poems of inspiration, reassurance, love, devotion, nature, and personal experiences, Hanna presents the positive side of life through uplifting lyrical verse intended to lead lost souls to the light, stimulate changes, and renew faith in a loving God. Through each poem, Hanna relies on his own experiences to encourage selflessness, a spreading of Gods message, and a love for all creatures in the universe. In this poignant compilation of verse, a fresh voice shares reflections intended to help both the young and the old spread their wings and find everlasting joy, faith, and love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eternity in British Romantic Poetry explores the representation of the relationship between eternity and the mortal world in the poetry of the period. It offers an original approach to Romanticism that demonstrates, against the grain, the dominant intellectual preoccupation of the era: the relationship between the mortal and the eternal. The project's scope is two-fold: firstly, it analyses the prevalence and range of images of eternity (from apocalypse and afterlife to transcendence) in Romantic poetry; secondly, it opens up a new and more nuanced focus on how Romantic poets imagined and interacted with the idea of eternity. Every poet featured in the book seeks and finds their uniqueness in their apprehension of eternity. From Blake’s assertion of the Eternal Now to Keats’s defiance of eternity, Wordsworth’s ‘two consciousnesses’ versus Coleridge’s capacious poetry, Byron’s swithering between versions of eternity compared to Shelleyan yearning, and Hemans’s superlative account of everlasting female suffering, each poet finds new versions of eternity to explore or reject. This monograph sets out a paradigm-shifting approach to the aesthetic and philosophical power of eternity in Romantic poetry.
