Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the intersecting forces of nationalism, terrorism, and patriotism that normalize an acceptance of the global war on terror as essential to maintaining freedom and democracy as defined by white nation-states. Readers are introduced to speculative ethnography: an experimental methodology that bends time and space through the practice of avant-garde poetics. This study conceptualizes terrorism as a place of colonial encounters between soldiers, insurgents, civilians, and leaders of nation-states. The tactics of suicide bombings employed by the Tamil nationalist movement, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, are juxtaposed with drone strikes in asymmetric warfare where violence becomes a means of dialogue. Each chapter weaves seemingly disparate narratives from multiple experiences and sites of war, inviting readers to witness the condition of getting lost in that willful attachment to killing and being killed in service of patriotic pride and national belonging.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a dream I had back in 1977 thousands of people were shouting out, in unison, an unusual name that I had never heard before. What I saw in that dream compelled me to try and find out if this name had any special meaning. That same day a language professor at the University of Maryland told me the only word he knew of that sounded like the one I heard in the dream was a Greek word. He said the word had three possible definitions; which changed when the accent over the -e- changed. Those definitions are very significant and I write about them in the chapter on Dreams and Visions. The definitions and an interpretation of the dream by a Rabbi three days after the dream led me to eventually believe that this unusual name could be the fulfillment of Revelations 2:17 and/or 3:12. In subsequent dreams I was writing a book titled -God's Plan to Save America-, and in one of those dreams a man was passing out white stones that had the name written on it that I heard in the dream. It is important to note that I learned of these Biblical Scriptures after I had these unusual dreams. Revelations 2:17. -Let the one who has an ear hear what the spirit says to the congregations: To him that conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white pebble, and UPON THE PEBBLE A NEW NAME written which no one knows except the one receiving it.-

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments increasingly offer or demand apologies for past human rights abuses, and it is widely believed that such expressions of contrition are necessary to promote reconciliation between former adversaries. The post-World War II experiences of Japan and Germany suggest that international apologies have powerful healing effects when they are offered, and poisonous effects when withheld. West Germany made extensive efforts to atone for wartime crimes-formal apologies, monuments to victims of the Nazis, and candid history textbooks; Bonn successfully reconciled with its wartime enemies. By contrast, Tokyo has made few and unsatisfying apologies and approves school textbooks that whitewash wartime atrocities. Japanese leaders worship at the Yasukuni Shrine, which honors war criminals among Japan's war dead. Relations between Japan and its neighbors remain tense. Examining the cases of South Korean relations with Japan and of French relations with Germany, Jennifer Lind demonstrates that denials of past atrocities fuel distrust and inhibit international reconciliation. In Sorry States, she argues that a country's acknowledgment of past misdeeds is essential for promoting trust and reconciliation after war. However, Lind challenges the conventional wisdom by showing that many countries have been able to reconcile without much in the way of apologies or reparations. Contrition can be highly controversial and is likely to cause a domestic backlash that alarms—rather than assuages—outside observers. Apologies and other such polarizing gestures are thus unlikely to soothe relations after conflict, Lind finds, and remembrance that is less accusatory-conducted bilaterally or in multilateral settings-holds the most promise for international reconciliation.

Book excerpt: When Jim DeMint wrote Saving Freedom: We Can Stop America’s Slide into Socialism in 2009, he believed an energized and informed America could put the brakes on the “progressive” bus driven by big government backers. What couldn’t be foreseen was the devastating effect Barack Obama would have on our Constitutional Republic in eight years. Since then, an embedded force of anti-Constitutionalists in every branch of the federal government have worked virulently to crush any attempt to reorient the United States to its founding principles. In Saving America from Socialism, the facts about socialism are the same, but after eight years of President Obama and high-profile socialists leading the Democratic Party, we now have a clearer picture of how socialism will impact our prosperity, freedoms, and rights. America has never been more divided about what it means to be an American, and this division is a key goal straight from the Socialist playbook. We must have a new strategy for uniting and rescuing our nation from the inevitable decline from Socialist policies. This book is your playbook to save America from socialism. Thankfully, Obama’s replacement—Donald Trump—has provided a clear contrast between the results of socialism versus freedom.

Book excerpt: Covering topics ranging from the Moral Monday movement to Christian films and performers, Religion and Media in America is a qualitative study of the ways in which religion has been woven into American popular and civic culture. This book explores how Christianity both adapts to and is affected by new media forms. Its six chapters address religious activism; government imposition of religiosity into secular culture; religious entertainment; Bible translations marketed as consumer goods; and how religious satire comes from both religious and secular sources. Recommended for scholars and students interested in media studies, film studies, religion, communication, American history, American studies, political science, and popular culture.
