Book excerpt: Concrete as a construction material goes through both physical and chemical changes under extreme elevated temperatures. As one of the most widely used building materials, it is important that both engineers and architects are able to understand and predict its behavior in under extreme heat conditions. Brief and readable, this book provides the tools and techniques to properly analysis the effects of high temperature of reinforced concrete which will lead to more stable, safer structures. Based on years of the author’s research, Reinforced Concrete at Elevated Temperatures four part treatment starts with an unambiguous and thorough exposition of the mechanical behaviors of materials at elevated temperature followed by a discussion of Temperature field of member sections, Mechanical behaviors of members and structures at elevated temperature, ending with Theoretical analysis and practical calculation methods. The book provides unique insight into: Coupling thermal-mechanical constitutive relation of concrete Exceptional analyses of beams and columns of rectangular section with three surfaces and two adjacent surfaces exposing to high temperature Measurement and analysis of redistribution of internal forces of statically indeterminate structure during heating-loading process Finite element analysis and calculation charts for two-dimensional temperature field of structural members Finite element analysis and simplified calculation method for reinforced concrete structure at elevated temperature With this book, engineers and architects can effectively analyze the effect of high temperature on concrete and materials which will lead to better designs of fire resistant and damage evaluation and treatment after fire. Book excerpt: This book presents the work done by the RILEM Technical Committee 227-HPB (Physical properties and behaviour of High-Performance Concrete at high temperature). It contains the latest research results on the behaviour of high-performance concretes at high temperature. The book presents the state of the art of experimental data on High-Performance concretes and it collects and synthesizes useful data about concrete behaviour at high temperatures. The book is divided into independent chapters dealing with degradation reactions in concrete exposed to high temperatures; mass transport properties; thermal properties; and mechanical properties. The results presented especially target a group of users composed by universities and testing laboratories, building material companies and industries, material scientists and experts, building and infrastructure authorities, designers and civil engineers.

Book excerpt: A study is presented concerning the behavior of reinforced concrete sections at elevated temperatures. Material properties of concrete and reinforcing steel are discussed. Behavior studies are made by means of moment-curvature-axial force relationships. Particular attention is given to the load carrying capacity, thermal forces and moments, and deformation capacity. The effects on these properties of variations in the strength properties, the temperature level and distribution, the amount of reinforcing steel, and limiting values of strains are considered.

This book was released on 2022-10-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments aiming at characterizing the effects of moisture content and temperature on the mechanical properties of concrete were conducted. Based on the results of the experiments, theoretical formulations were proposed and a new overall material model capable of predicting the mechanical behaviour of concrete subject to elevated temperatures up to 100 C was developed. The new material model estimates the time, temperature and moisture dependency of the compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, creep and shrinkage of concrete. Consequently, this book provides specific knowledge about the influences of elevated temperatures and moisture content on the mechanical behaviour of concrete as well as a tool to calculate these influences. This shall contribute to the field of investigation of estimating the structural safety under ordinary and extraordinary loadings as well as to the area of evaluating the service life of concrete structures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods for analytically predicting the behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete beams subjected to fire are presented. This is generally a two-step process involving a thermal analysis followed by a stress analysis. This study emphasizes the latter, wherein the determination of moment-curvature-time relationships for the beam cross section incorporates the temperature-dependent strength degradation in the steel and concrete as well as thermal and creep strains. The sensitivity of the predictions to various phases of analytical modeling is investigated to establish the parameters most important for the prediction of beam behavior and to indicate where additional data should be gathered. A comparison of predicted behavior with that observed in fire tests shows excellent agreement when realistic reinforcement temperature histories are used.
