Book excerpt: Cyber security is one of the most critical problems faced by enterprises, government organizations, education institutes, small and medium scale businesses, and medical institutions today. Creating a cyber security posture through proper cyber security architecture, deployment of cyber defense tools, and building a security operation center are critical for all such organizations given the preponderance of cyber threats. However, cyber defense tools are expensive, and many small and medium-scale business houses cannot procure these tools within their budgets. Even those business houses that manage to procure them cannot use them effectively because of the lack of human resources and the knowledge of the standard enterprise security architecture. In 2020, the C3i Center at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur developed a professional certification course where IT professionals from various organizations go through rigorous six-month long training in cyber defense. During their training, groups within the cohort collaborate on team projects to develop cybersecurity solutions for problems such as malware analysis, threat intelligence collection, endpoint detection and protection, network intrusion detection, developing security incidents, event management systems, etc. All these projects leverage open-source tools, and code from various sources, and hence can be also constructed by others if the recipe to construct such tools is known. It is therefore beneficial if we put these recipes out in the form of book chapters such that small and medium scale businesses can create these tools based on open-source components, easily following the content of the chapters. In 2021, we published the first volume of this series based on the projects done by cohort 1 of the course. This volume, second in the series has new recipes and tool development expertise based on the projects done by cohort 3 of this training program. This volume consists of nine chapters that describe experience and know-how of projects in malware analysis, web application security, intrusion detection system, and honeypot in sufficient detail so they can be recreated by anyone looking to develop home grown solutions to defend themselves from cyber-attacks.

Book excerpt: Enterprise Cybersecurity empowers organizations of all sizes to defend themselves with next-generation cybersecurity programs against the escalating threat of modern targeted cyberattacks. This book presents a comprehensive framework for managing all aspects of an enterprise cybersecurity program. It enables an enterprise to architect, design, implement, and operate a coherent cybersecurity program that is seamlessly coordinated with policy, programmatics, IT life cycle, and assessment. Fail-safe cyberdefense is a pipe dream. Given sufficient time, an intelligent attacker can eventually defeat defensive measures protecting an enterprise’s computer systems and IT networks. To prevail, an enterprise cybersecurity program must manage risk by detecting attacks early enough and delaying them long enough that the defenders have time to respond effectively. Enterprise Cybersecurity shows players at all levels of responsibility how to unify their organization’s people, budgets, technologies, and processes into a cost-efficient cybersecurity program capable of countering advanced cyberattacks and containing damage in the event of a breach. The authors of Enterprise Cybersecurity explain at both strategic and tactical levels how to accomplish the mission of leading, designing, deploying, operating, managing, and supporting cybersecurity capabilities in an enterprise environment. The authors are recognized experts and thought leaders in this rapidly evolving field, drawing on decades of collective experience in cybersecurity and IT. In capacities ranging from executive strategist to systems architect to cybercombatant, Scott E. Donaldson, Stanley G. Siegel, Chris K. Williams, and Abdul Aslam have fought on the front lines of cybersecurity against advanced persistent threats to government, military, and business entities.

Book excerpt: Balance the benefits of digital transformation with the associated risks with this guide to effectively managing cybersecurity as a strategic business issue. Important and cost-effective innovations can substantially increase cyber risk and the loss of intellectual property, corporate reputation and consumer confidence. Over the past several years, organizations around the world have increasingly come to appreciate the need to address cybersecurity issues from a business perspective, not just from a technical or risk angle. Cybersecurity for Business builds on a set of principles developed with international leaders from technology, government and the boardroom to lay out a clear roadmap of how to meet goals without creating undue cyber risk. This essential guide outlines the true nature of modern cyber risk, and how it can be assessed and managed using modern analytical tools to put cybersecurity in business terms. It then describes the roles and responsibilities each part of the organization has in implementing an effective enterprise-wide cyber risk management program, covering critical issues such as incident response, supply chain management and creating a culture of security. Bringing together a range of experts and senior leaders, this edited collection enables leaders and students to understand how to manage digital transformation and cybersecurity from a business perspective.

Book excerpt: Cybersecurity has been gaining serious attention and recently has become an important topic of concern for organizations, government institutions, and largely for people interacting with digital online systems. As many individual and organizational activities continue to grow and are conducted in the digital environment, new vulnerabilities have arisen which have led to cybersecurity threats. The nature, source, reasons, and sophistication for cyberattacks are not clearly known or understood, and many times invisible cyber attackers are never traced or can never be found. Cyberattacks can only be known once the attack and the destruction have already taken place long after the attackers have left. Cybersecurity for computer systems has increasingly become important because the government, military, corporate, financial, critical infrastructure, and medical organizations rely heavily on digital network systems, which process and store large volumes of data on computer devices that are exchanged on the internet, and they are vulnerable to “continuous” cyberattacks. As cybersecurity has become a global concern, it needs to be clearly understood, and innovative solutions are required. The Handbook of Research on Advancing Cybersecurity for Digital Transformation looks deeper into issues, problems, and innovative solutions and strategies that are linked to cybersecurity. This book will provide important knowledge that can impact the improvement of cybersecurity, which can add value in terms of innovation to solving cybersecurity threats. The chapters cover cybersecurity challenges, technologies, and solutions in the context of different industries and different types of threats. This book is ideal for cybersecurity researchers, professionals, scientists, scholars, and managers, as well as practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the latest advancements in cybersecurity for digital transformation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Internet is making our daily lives as digital as possible, and this new era is called the Internet of Everything (IoE). The key force behind the rapid growth of the Internet is the technological advancement of enterprises. The digital world we live in is facilitated by these enterprises’ advances and business intelligence. These enterprises need to deal with gazillions of bytes of data, and in today’s age of General Data Protection Regulation, enterprises are required to ensure privacy and security of large-scale data collections. However, the increased connectivity and devices used to facilitate IoE are continually creating more room for cybercriminals to find vulnerabilities in enterprise systems and flaws in their corporate governance. Ensuring cybersecurity and corporate governance for enterprises should not be an afterthought or present a huge challenge. In recent times, the complex diversity of cyber-attacks has been skyrocketing, and zero-day attacks, such as ransomware, botnet, and telecommunication attacks, are happening more frequently than before. New hacking strategies would easily bypass existing enterprise security and governance platforms using advanced, persistent threats. For example, in 2020, the Toll Group firm was exploited by a new crypto-attack family for violating its data privacy, where an advanced ransomware technique was launched to exploit the corporation and request a huge figure of monetary ransom. Even after applying rational governance hygiene, cybersecurity configuration and software updates are often overlooked when they are most needed to fight cyber-crime and ensure data privacy. Therefore, the threat landscape in the context of enterprises has become wider and far more challenging. There is a clear need for collaborative work throughout the entire value chain of this network. In this context, this book addresses the cybersecurity and cooperate governance challenges associated with enterprises, which will provide a bigger picture of the concepts, intelligent techniques, practices, and open research directions in this area. This book serves as a single source of reference for acquiring the knowledge on the technology, process, and people involved in next-generation privacy and security.
