Book excerpt: Unleash your inner genius and take your life by storm with this supportive guide to fearlessly cultivating your imagination and sustaining your creativity Do you have a nagging suspicion that you're not living up to your creative potential? Do you feel hindered by the deeply embedded programming of social conformity and core limiting beliefs? Most of all, are you ready to shed those shackles and unleash the raging genius deep inside? In Awaken Your Genius, author Carolyn Elliott helps you do just that with a seven-step course that shows you how to live at your fullest creative potential and make manifest your deepest desires and dreams. In Step 1, Hearing the Heart's Call, you'll learn how to determine your true passions and create a vision for yourself at your most fully realized best. Step 2, Accepting the Call, helps you turn that vision into a commitment. Step 3, Meeting the Guide, opens the door to dialoguing with your inner mentor—the subconscious part of yourself that knows what's missing and how to get it. Step 4, Crossing the Threshold, shows you how to let go of socially programed conformity and venture into your own personal imaginative dreamscape. Step 5, Enduring Trials, gives you tools and tips on navigating the inevitable obstacles that arise when doing this kind of transformational work. Step 6, Becoming Divine, shows you how to tune in to your most expansive, unconditionally loving self, which in turn gives you the power to manifest your dreams and inspire those around you. Step 7, Taming Your Genius, shows you how to negotiate with your newfound genius—a mighty power to be reckoned with—so that it gets sustenance without becoming disruptive. Each step comes with excellent explanations of the powers at work, as well as assignments (called "experiments") and check-ins to make sure you're keeping up with the previous steps.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in detail seven contemporary approaches to dream interpretation as they are actually practiced by highly skilled and experienced psychiatrists and psychologists who have worked with dreams for at least a decade. The reader can sample radically different approaches from various schools of interpetation and gain the tools for making meaningful comparisons. The contributors describe their theoretical roots and how they have departed from them when confronted with the real world of real dreamers. Each chapter teaches the reader in practical terms what to do when trying to understand a dream of one’s own, or one’s friend, colleague, or client. Readers are taken behind the curtain of theory into the consultation room where the work of interpretation takes place. This book provides a variety of contemporary, non-dogmatic, practical ways to work with dreams. Each contributor emphasizes not theory, but interpretive method and practical application of dream interpretation. Contributors to this volume include John E. Beebe, Eric Craig, Gayle Delaney, Loma K. Flowers, Ramon Greenberg, Milton Kramer, Joe Natterson, Chester Arthur Pearlman, Montague Ullman, and Stephen J. Walsh.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a three-year ethnographic study of a steadily growing suburban Muslim immigrant congregation in Midwest America, this book examines the micro-processes through which a group of Muslim immigrants from diverse backgrounds negotiate multiple identities while seeking to become part of American society in the years following 9/11. The author looks into frictions, conflicts, and schisms within the community to debunk myths and provide a close-up look at the experiences of ordinary immigrant Muslims in the United States. Instead of treating Muslim immigrants as fundamentally different from others, this book views Muslims as multidimensional individuals whose identities are defined by a number of basic social attributes, including gender, race, social class, and religiosity. Each person portrayed in this ethnography is a complex individual, whose hierarchy of identities is shaped by particular events and the larger social environment. By focusing on a single congregation, this study controls variables related to the particularity of place and presents a “thick” description of interactions within small groups. This book argues that the frictions, conflicts and schisms are necessary as much as inevitable in cultivating a “composite culture” within the American Muslim community marked by diversity, leading it onto the path of Americanization.

Book excerpt: "Against a backdrop of dizzying urbanization, French utopian thinkers of the nineteenth century set out to explore the transformative possibilities of the modern metropolis. Linking literary analyses with diverse strands of cultural and intellectual history, this study considers how the utopian vision of the city in turn came to impinge on prose writing by poets: in Saint-Simonian literature, and in texts by Theophile Gautier, Charles Baudelaire and Arthur Rimbaud. At points steeped in the hyperbolic rhetoric of utopian projects, these texts nonetheless wear away at the internal coherence of that rhetoric and the idealizing meanings it supports. What emerges from Greg Kerr's analysis is a hitherto unfamiliar dimension of these writings, revealing the alertness of some of the greatest exponents of nineteenth-century poetry to the dynamic possibilities of utopian writing, and suggesting new ways to understand the evolution of poetic discourse across the century. Greg Kerr is Lecturer in French at the University of Lancaster."
