Horse and Hound _______________________________________________ "To ride into that arena, next to a sea of British flags and hear the roar of clapping and cheering, was so exciting. It's a sound I will never, ever forget." Charlotte Dujardin and her charismatic horse Valegro burst onto the international sports scene with their record-breaking performance at the London, 2012 Olympics. The world was captivated by the young woman with the dazzling smile and her dancing horse. But no one quite knew what it took to get there, nor how hard the path to success would be - until now. Dujardin began riding horses at the age of two, but dressage was firmly the domain of the wealthy, not the life of a girl from a middle-class family. Her parents sacrificed all and with a undeterred focus, Charlotte left school at 16 to follow her dream. When she was invited to be a groom for the British Olympian Carl Hester, she began to ride Valegro, a dark bay gelding and an unbreakable bond was formed. This is their incredible story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memory is not a mere repository for past events. This was Henri Bergson's fundamental claim about consciousness. In distinguishing our psychic constitution by its sense of the past, Bergson differentiates our perception of time from a process in which one instant merely replaces another. While Bergson cast his ideas in terms of the biological sciences, his analysis did not neglect the moral impulse that accompanies the condensation of history with which we continuously live. Classifying human existence in this way bears on ethical and political questions. How such questions can plague the memory of a people and the entire human community is addressed in Justice and the Politics of Memory. The contributors explore the manner in which cultural and psychic violation undermine collective identity, and destroy traditions. They raise troubling questions on how recompense and reconciliation is possible after abominable wrongs have been systematically perpetrated against a community. Faced with the burden of memory, those committed to the righting of wrongs are faced with pursuing an elusive justice that sometimes includes levying reparations and memorializing horrific historical episodes. Guided by the muse of forgiveness, restoration and a more harmonious future are likely to be rooted in the sources of spirituality that had been previously eclipsed by the conquering and homogenizing historical processes. This volume includes Heribert Adam's "Collective Reckoning with a Criminal Regime," Jeffrey Olick's "Lessons from and for Germany," James Hatley's "Levinas, Witness and Politics," James E. Young's "Germany's Holocaust Memorial Problem--and Mine," Tim Giago's "Killing the Indian to Save the Child: The Near Death of Spirituality," Jordan B. Peterson's and Maja Djikic's "Running Ahead: You Can Neither Remember Nor Forget What You Do Not Understand," Derick Wilson's "Where Religion Confuses yet Faith Gives Hope: Conflict Resolution in Northern Ireland," and Leonard Kaplan's "Justice Perfected: Cinematic Exemplifications," and an introduction, "Morality and Memory," by the editor.

It is 1870, and the ex-lawman is hiding out in the capital of colonial British Columbia, using the name Lincoln Zachary. He soon befriends a series of locals: a young woman with a mysterious background; a pair of young English gentlemen, who are travelling through the area; a manic, alcoholic notary from the Washington Territory; and a rich but unscrupulous local business family, who are organizing what they think will be the horse race of the decade. But not all of his new friends have Zachary’s best intentions at heart, as he becomes involved with a blackmailing scoundrel who knows his true identity and intends to make the most of the situation. Suspense mounts as the day of the horse race approaches. Both love and danger are in the air, and Zachary once again exhibits his ability to do just the wrong thing at the wrong time. Set in a most interesting time and place in our history, Zachary's Horses follows Zachary Beddoes as he struggles to survive the Wild West of the north.

London sportswriter Donald Grant has been asked by his boss, the news editor, to help him investigate a murder. It’s not Grant’s usual beat, but he can’t say no to a fellow Scotsman—especially since his boss senses that the roots of the crime go all the way to Kintyre. As the two head north to Scotland, they have no idea the trail will lead them to a recently built high-security atomic center—and a quiet, secluded community that harbors many secrets. And when a scientist from the plant is found hanged, they discover they may be chasing a very dangerous story. “Angus MacVicar runs John Buchan close as the supreme spinner of an enthralling yarn.” —Daily Express

This study explores how spirituality and the personal experience of the divine has been expressed and preserved in various religious traditions. The phenomenon of revelation is explored and interpreted through examples from across the religious spectrum, and six different types of revelation are posited: visions and voices, divination, spirit journey, spirit mediation, mystical union, and divine incarnation.
