Book excerpt: This book continues first one of the same authors “Adaptive Image Processing Algorithms for Printing” and presents methods and software solutions for copying and scanning various types of documents by conventional office equipment, offering techniques for correction of distortions and enhancement of scanned documents; techniques for automatic cropping and de-skew; approaches for segmentation of text and picture regions; documents classifiers; approach for vectorization of symbols by approximation of their contour by curves; methods for optimal compression of scanned documents, algorithm for stitching parts of large originals; copy-protection methods by microprinting and embedding of hidden information to hardcopy; algorithmic approach for toner saving. In addition, method for integral printing is considered. Described techniques operate in automatic mode thanks to machine learning or ingenious heuristics. Most the techniques presented have a low computational complexity and memory consumption due to they were designed for firmware of embedded systems or software drivers. The book reflects the authors’ practical experience in algorithm development for industrial R&D.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents prospective, industrially proven methods and software solutions for storing, processing, and viewing multimedia content on digital cameras, camcorders, TV, and mobile devices. Most of the algorithms described here are implemented as systems on chip firmware or as software products and have low computational complexity and memory consumption. In the four parts of the book, which contains a total of 16 chapters, the authors address solutions for the conversion of images and videos by super-resolution, depth estimation and control and mono-to-stereo (2D to 3D) conversion; display applications by video editing; the real-time detection of sport episodes; and the generation and reproduction of natural effects. The practical principles of machine learning are illustrated using technologies such as image classification as a service, mobile user profiling, and automatic view planning with dictionary-based compressed sensing in magnetic resonance imaging. The implementation of these technologies in mobile devices is discussed in relation to algorithms using a depth camera based on a colour-coded aperture, the animated graphical abstract of an image, a motion photo, and approaches and methods for iris recognition on mobile platforms. The book reflects the authors’ practical experience in the development of algorithms for industrial R&D and the commercialization of technologies. Explains digital techniques for digital cameras, camcorders, TV, mobile devices; Offers essential algorithms for the processing pipeline in multimedia devices and accompanying software tools; Features advanced topics on data processing, addressing current technology challenges.

Book excerpt: Digital forensics and multimedia forensics are rapidly growing disciplines whereby electronic information is extracted and interpreted for use in a court of law. These two fields are finding increasing importance in law enforcement and the investigation of cybercrime as the ubiquity of personal computing and the internet becomes ever-more apparent. Digital forensics involves investigating computer systems and digital artefacts in general, while multimedia forensics is a sub-topic of digital forensics focusing on evidence extracted from both normal computer systems and special multimedia devices, such as digital cameras. This book focuses on the interface between digital forensics and multimedia forensics, bringing two closely related fields of forensic expertise together to identify and understand the current state-of-the-art in digital forensic investigation. Both fields are expertly attended to by contributions from researchers and forensic practitioners specializing in diverse topics such as forensic authentication, forensic triage, forensic photogrammetry, biometric forensics, multimedia device identification, and image forgery detection among many others. Key features: Brings digital and multimedia forensics together with contributions from academia, law enforcement, and the digital forensics industry for extensive coverage of all the major aspects of digital forensics of multimedia data and devices Provides comprehensive and authoritative coverage of digital forensics of multimedia data and devices Offers not only explanations of techniques but also real-world and simulated case studies to illustrate how digital and multimedia forensics techniques work Includes a companion website hosting continually updated supplementary materials ranging from extended and updated coverage of standards to best practice guides, test datasets and more case studies

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital forensics deals with the acquisition, preservation, examination, analysis and presentation of electronic evidence. Computer networks, cloud computing, smartphones, embedded devices and the Internet of Things have expanded the role of digital forensics beyond traditional computer crime investigations. Practically every crime now involves some aspect of digital evidence; digital forensics provides the techniques and tools to articulate this evidence in legal proceedings. Digital forensics also has myriad intelligence applications; furthermore, it has a vital role in cyber security -- investigations of security breaches yield valuable information that can be used to design more secure and resilient systems. Advances in Digital Forensics XVIII describes original research results and innovative applications in the discipline of digital forensics. In addition, it highlights some of the major technical and legal issues related to digital evidence and electronic crime investigations. The areas of coverage include: This book is the eighteenth volume in the annual series produced by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 11.9 on Digital Forensics, an international community of scientists, engineers and practitioners dedicated to advancing the state of the art of research and practice in digital forensics. The book contains a selection of eleven edited papers from the Eighteenth Annual IFIP WG 11.9 International Conference on Digital Forensics, a fully-virtual event held in the winter of 2022.

Book excerpt: This is one of the very few books focused on analysis of multimedia data and newly emerging multimedia applications with an emphasis on security. The main objective of this project was to assemble as much research coverage as possible related to the field by defining the latest innovative technologies and providing the most comprehensive list of research references. The book includes sixteen chapters highlighting current concepts, issues and emerging technologies. Distinguished scholars from many prominent research institutions around the world contribute to the book. The book covers various aspects, including not only some fundamental knowledge and the latest key techniques, but also typical applications and open issues. Topics covered include dangerous or abnormal event detection, interaction recognition, person identification based on multiple traits, audiovisual biometric person authentication and liveness verification, emerging biometric technologies, sensitive information filtering for teleradiology, detection of nakedness in images, audio forensics, steganalysis, media content tracking authentication and illegal distributor identification through watermarking and content-based copy detection. We believe that the comprehensive coverage of diverse disciplines in the field of intelligent multimedia analysis for security applications will contribute to a better understanding of all topics, research, and discoveries in this emerging and evolving field and that the included contributions will be instrumental in the expansion of the corresponding body of knowledge, making this book a reference source of information.
