Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TAL Hologram. The term 'Digital Hologram' is used to describe the mathematical results of transforming a numerical array, that uniquely describes an image, into another numerical array. This latter numerical array, or Digital Hologram, permits element manipulation to achieve data compression and some type of spatial filtering, while preserving a considerable amount of image fidelity. This study examines the tradeoff of bandwidth vs image quality when filtering 'area' imagery signals in the transform domain. Algorithms have been developed from orthonormal sets of candidate Fourier, Walsh and Haar functions which tend to concentrate picture energy in small 'zones', yielding generous amounts of zero elements elsewhere. These terms are then amplitude and position encoded for simulated data link transmission at the expense of a small amount of digital housekeeping time-bandwidth. (Modified author abstract).
