Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featured as a single volume, this is a comprehensive guide to possible nerve entrapment syndromes and their management. Each chapter covers a single nerve, or group of closely related nerves, and goes over the clinical presentation, anatomy, physical exam, differential diagnosis, contributing factors, injection techniques, neurolytic/surgical techniques, treatments of perpetuating factors, and complications. Nerve entrapments can occur throughout the body and cause headaches, chest pain, abdominal pain, pelvic pain, low back pain, and upper and lower extremity pain. As an example, one of the most common forms of nerve entrapment syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, affects roughly 1 in 20 people in the United States, and is only one of several types of entrapment syndromes possible for the median nerve. Chapters are also extensively illustrated and include 3D anatomical images. The additional online material enhances the book with more than 50 videos - at least 2 for each nerve. This enables readers to easily navigate the book. In addition to a conventional index it includes a “Pain Problems Index” for searching by symptom. Peripheral Nerve Entrapments: Clinical Diagnosis and Management is a long-needed resource for pain physicians, emergency room physicians, and neurologists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peripheral neuropathy affects at least 20 million people in the United States. Nearly 60% of all people with diabetes suffer from peripheral neuropathy. It can be associated with poor nutrition, a number of diseases, and pressure or trauma. Many people suffer from the disorder without ever identifying the cause. Peripheral neuropathy produces symptoms such as weakness, muscle cramps, twitching, pain, numbness, burning, and tingling (often in the feet and hands). Neuropathic pain is often worse at night, seriously disrupting sleep and adding to the emotional burden of sensory nerve damage.Neuropathy does not usually clear up unless the underlying problem is relieved or removed. Controlling a chronic condition may not eliminate neuropathy, but it can play a key role in managing it. Depending on the cause, neuropathy may be relieved by medications, vitamin supplements, physical or occupational therapy, splinting, or surgery.Dr. Babak Baravarian is a podiatric foot and ankle specialist. He is currently a member of UCLA Medical Group, chief of podiatric surgery at Santa Monica/UCLA medical center, and an assistant clinical professor at the UCLA School of Medicine. He also serves as co-director of The Foot and Ankle Institute.

The cases are divided into four distinct areas of peripheral nerve pathology: entrapment and inflammatory neuropathies, peripheral nerve pain syndromes, peripheral nerve tumors, and peripheral nerve trauma. Each chapter also contains 'pivot points' that illuminate changes required to manage patients in alternate or atypical situations, and pearls for accurate diagnosis, successful treatment, and effective complication management. Containing a focused review of medical evidence and expected outcomes, Peripheral Nerve Surgery is appropriate for neurosurgeons who wish to learn more about this subspecialty, and those preparing for the American Board of Neurological Surgery oral examination.

Book excerpt: This book presents the latest information on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of peripheral nerve entrapment neuropathy, focusing on the lumbar spine and the lower limbs. The book is divided into three thematic sections, on para-lumbar spine disease, lower limb entrapment neuropathy, and comprehensive reviews. In addition to exploring the latest advances, it also features short essays by the Editor that provide valuable insights into the disease. Though neuropathy of the upper limbs has been studied in detail and substantial evidence is available, there are very few books on para-lumbar spine and lower limb entrapment neuropathy. Often, the symptoms are misdiagnosed as lumbar spine disease, overlooked, or treated as failed back surgery syndrome. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the disease and shares the latest findings from the last 10 years of research into its diagnosis and treatment, offering essential guidance for general clinicians, spinal surgeons and neurosurgeon who treat numbness and pain in the lower limbs and lower back. It will also benefit young doctors interested in the field, nurses, therapists and patients
