Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The variety of these chapters ranges from qualitative or mixed methods studies to how-to guides and narratives. There are chapters that explain social media usage in academia, industry, grants, and professional organizations. Some chapters focus on a teaching model, others extend the focus to encompass personal and professional social media usage. Most chapters were contributed by current chemists who use social media, but some were contributed by those with a different perspective (e.g., social scientists, librarians, etc.). Nevertheless, all of the chapters provide a great deal of wisdom, which is built from the experience of using social media. These chapters also touch on emerging themes within social media communication: transformation and ethics issues including digital redlining, digital pedagogy, digital identity, curation, hypervisibility, and trolling. These themes form both a rich body of discussion and current research topics regarding online environments, including social media, and they have not yet achieved saturation in peer-reviewed literature.

Book excerpt: Chemistry plays a critical role in daily life, impacting areas such as medicine and health, consumer products, energy production, the ecosystem, and many other areas. Communicating about chemistry in informal environments has the potential to raise public interest and understanding of chemistry around the world. However, the chemistry community lacks a cohesive, evidence-based guide for designing effective communication activities. This report is organized into two sections. Part A: The Evidence Base for Enhanced Communication summarizes evidence from communications, informal learning, and chemistry education on effective practices to communicate with and engage publics outside of the classroom; presents a framework for the design of chemistry communication activities; and identifies key areas for future research. Part B: Communicating Chemistry: A Framework for Sharing Science is a practical guide intended for any chemists to use in the design, implementation, and evaluation of their public communication efforts.

Book excerpt: A growing body of evidence indicates that, increasingly, the public is engaging with science in a wide range of informal environments, which can be any setting outside of school such as community-based programs, festivals, libraries, or home. Yet undergraduate and graduate schools often don't prepare scientists for public communication. This practical guide is intended for any chemist â€" that is, any professional who works in chemistry-related activities, whether research, manufacturing or policy â€" who wishes to improve their informal communications with the public. At the heart of this guide is a framework, which was presented in the report Effective Chemistry Communication in Informal Environments and is based on the best available empirical evidence from the research literature on informal learning, science communication, and chemistry education. The framework consists of five elements which can be applied broadly to any science communication event in an informal setting.

This book was released on 2023-10-04 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As leaders climb the executive ladder, there are unique differences between age groups. The millennial leader must be groomed for success and faces many obstacles as they progress. As prior generations begin to retire, the next set of leaders must be in the position to sustain the new roles that they are ascending to and have the knowledge and competency to do so. As these leaders quickly move into senior roles, they must be sufficiently prepared. Without this advancement and preparation, there will be no leaders to sustain our organizations and institutions. Considerations and Characteristics of the Millennial Leader in Today’s Global Society explores the routes of millennial leaders for ascension through the educational and corporate ranks, along with the challenges, lessons learned, and qualifications needed to be successful. It provides narratives and insights on the millennial leader, leadership qualities needed of future leaders, and delves into other millennial leaders who have ascended, as well as how managers, supervisors, and senior leaders can help in the changes of the organizational life cycle. Covering topics such as emotionally intelligent leadership, positive social psychology, and leadership development, this premier reference source is an essential resource for business executives and managers, human resource managers, entrepreneurs, government officials, politicians, community leaders, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.
