Book excerpt: This book seeks to show, against the grain of English language commentary, that Spinoza is neither a Cartesian nor a liberal but precisely the most thoroughgoing materialist in the history of philosophy. The work begins by examining Spinoza's notion of the materiality of writing, a notion developed through his examination of scripture. It then postulates the three fundamental principles of Spinoza's philosophy: there can be no liberation of the mind without a liberation of the body, and no liberation of the individual without a collective liberation, and that the written form of these propositions itself possesses a corporeal existence, not as the realization or materialization of a pre-existing mental, spiritual intention, but as a body among other bodies. Ultimately, the book prompts us to consider Spinoza's philosophy anew, by replacing questions like "Who has read it?" and "Of those, how many of us have understood it?" with "What material effects has it produced, not only on or in minds, but on bodies as well?" and "To what extent has it moved bodies and what has it moved them to?"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book “Hypotheses-3: Genesis and Evolution of Atoms and Cosmic Bodies”. is the final one in the series “Hypotheses. Serkov AT ". The first book in this series was published in 1998. This book examines the formation of chemical elements, their evolution and decay. The initial product is hydrogen (protons), which is formed by condensation of sub-elementary particles and during nuclear reactions by the mechanism of the formation of «secondary drops» when a «drop» of nuclear liquid hits the surface of the liquid nucleus of an atom (crown splash effect). An increase in the mass of atoms occurs as a result of the orbital capture of atoms of light elements, their subsequent deceleration and fall on the nucleus, as a result of which the frequency of rotation of nuclei increases, leading to periodic disruption of dynamic boundary layers and, accordingly, to a periodic change in the properties of chemical elements. An increase in the speed of rotation of stars with an increase in their mass indicates the occurrence of similar processes in space and the main sequence in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram reflects the process of an increase in the mass of stars due to orbital captures of red and brown dwarfs. Periodic changes in the properties of exoplanetary systems are predicted depending on the mass of stars, in particular, their sizes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From here to utopia, new directions in political theory What does political agency mean for those who don't know what to do or can't be bothered to do it? This book develops a novel account of collective emancipation in which freedom is achieved not through knowledge and action but via doubt and inertia. In essays that range from ancient Greece to the end of the Anthropocene, Bull addresses questions central to contemporary political theory in novel readings of texts by Aristotle, Machiavelli, Marx, and Arendt, and shows how classic philosophical problems have a bearing on issues like political protest and climate change. The result is an entirely original account of political agency for the twenty-first century in which uncertainty and idleness are limned with utopian promise.
