Book excerpt: In 2006, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Crohn's is an incurable inflammatory disease of the digestive tract. My case was severe, and required over a dozen daily medications and several hospital visits. After reaching a personal low point in hospital, I decided I would do everything in my power to strengthen my by then weakened body. Through a combination of yoga, nutrition, natural supplements and rigorous exercise (Ironman and Crossfit) I was able to fight back the symptoms of Crohn's until I was finally able to suspend my medication. Eventually I was declared free of all traces of the 'incurable' disease, and competed in Ironman France in June of 2011. I have since spoken at seminars and at a regional TED Talk about my struggle against a seemingly insurmountable opponent. Through the process of data collection, self tracking, and analysis, I developed Less Doing. This was a way of dealing with the daily stresses of life by optimizing, automating, and outsourcing all of my tasks in life and business.

Book excerpt: Over ten years ago, author Stephen Eugene became very sick with a mystery illness at the young age of 24. Blood tests revealed nothing out of the norm and he struggled to express vague and changing symptoms. After years of deliberation, he underwent a colonoscopy revealing the source of his sickness - Crohn's Disease. Having never even heard of the disease prior to his diagnosis, he was happy to have found a name for his condition. Unfortunately, there was no cure and no known cause. Doctors recommended harmful steroid treatments to keep the inflammation at bay. He was also told that even with the steroid treatment, eventually surgery would be needed to remove the effected area of his intestines. Having had enough with the medical establishment, Stephen decided to treat his illness through natural and holistic means. The following pages tell of this man's struggle and success in finding the answers that literally saved his life.
