Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much literature for children appears in the form of series, in which familiar characters appear in book after book. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, authors began to write science fiction series for children. These early series generally had plots that revolved around inventions developed by the protagonist. But it was the development and use of rocket and atomic science during World War II that paved the way for interesting and exciting new themes, conflicts, and plots. While much has been written about the early juvenile science fiction series, particularly the Tom Swift books, comparatively little has been written about children's science fiction series published since 1945. This book provides a broad overview of this previously neglected topic. The volume offers a critical look at the history, themes, characters, settings, and construction of post-1945 juvenile science fiction series, including the A.I. Gang, the Animorphs, Commander Toad, Danny Dunn, Dragonfall Five, the Magic School Bus, and Space Cat. The book begins with an introductory history of juvenile science fiction since 1945, with chapters then devoted to particular topics. Some of these topics include the role of aliens and animals, attitudes toward humor, the absence and presence of science, and the characterization of women. A special feature is an appendix listing the various series. In addition, the volume provides extensive bibliographical information.

Book excerpt: "Mr. Spaceship" is a science fiction short story by American writer Philip K. Dick, first published in Imagination in January 1953, and later in The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick. The story is set in the distant future, where humanity is at war with "Yuks", an alien life form which does not use mechanical spaceships nor constructions but instead relies on life forms to power their technology. The war has been going on for a long time and humanity has not been able to come up with a solution against the life-form based ships and mines that the Yuks use. One day a team of researchers led by Philip Kramer decide to build a spaceship which is powered by a human brain and they find the ideal candidate in Kramer's old professor, a dying man who volunteers to donate his brain to the project.

An excellent engineer, Chris meets Kerman, a captain of a spaceship, who invites Chris to help investigate an event for his colleague's daughter. During the travel to Ponlenia, they meet the extremely dangerous black hole incident. They struggle with the event and eventually arrive at Ponlenia. From an industrial revolution planet to a five-thousand-year-old advanced civilization, Chris gets a great shock, but he and his friends Frank and Christopher, eventually with their hard work and studying, they gradually become important members in the space center. Meanwhile, the real important event happens when Mike and Sam's first Earth expedition team entered this sphere to build the Earth's first colony, Milirina. As the human beings' first ideal immigrating target planet, Milirina showed the people from Earth an amazing scene. Also they help the L-P star system get rid of the threat of the black hole. The whole story is thrilling and romantic, especially in the final part when Mike's team at last eliminates the heaviest natural disaster. This story takes place in Paliland, one hundred light-years away from the Earth. This is a very advanced planet that surrounds Billy, from an ordinary farm boy to a professional astronaut. A series of vivid and touching stories created a true hero. He finally joined the team of Mike and Sam, the representative of the supercivilization, and began to create a peaceful galaxy. Mike and Sam's team conducted and organized a series of operations to help these advanced planets stop wars and provide opportunities to restore peace and establish cooperative organizations. The romantic story between John and Mia has greatly deepened people's imagination. Human happiness is not limited to the Earth. This book is the second book in the series Beyond the Horizon by Kevin W. Lynn. Also, Sam's visiting team after first visiting the advanced civilization, a brilliant picture appeared. It has never been a dream for mankind to reach a truly heavenly world.

Book excerpt: The year is 2112 and scientists are predicting that in twenty years or so an ice age will develop, that will, in all probability, be an extinction level event (ELE). Six scientists from various scientific fields come together and are able to build a spaceship that is capable of traveling faster than the speed of light. They discover that this will allow them to travel back in time. Traveling essentially the speed of light allows them to travel forward in time. Using time travel, they go back to 2012 to try to convince people to change their ways and prevent this ELE from happening. Unfortunately, the people in that time period don’t believe them and the ice age is definitely coming. The six explorers search for an earth-like planet to which they can bring a number of people. They find a suitable planet more than two million light-years from earth. Is there time to find the appropriate individuals and transport them to this new planet before ice age engulfs the entire Earth?
