Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catchment Hydrological Modelling: The Science and Art covers various methods (and equations) for modeling all components of a CHM. Readers are presented with multiple methods and approaches to modeling the same component, allowing them to distinguish the differences between methods. The books also provides a clear understanding of what makes some commonly used hydrological models similar or different and what their strengths and weaknesses may be. This comprehensive guide contains questions and answers in each chapter, along with concepts and detailed equations that are fundamental to understanding CHM. This book is useful to students and professionals in the fields of catchment and hydrology, as well as environmental and civil engineers. Includes practical advice on developing and/or applying CHM models, empowering readers to do so themselves Presents practical aspects of catchment modeling, from model structure design to model operation Presents hydrological catchment modeling in a clear and coherent way while also describing different approaches for the same processes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores a new realm in data-based modeling with applications to hydrology. Pursuing a case study approach, it presents a rigorous evaluation of state-of-the-art input selection methods on the basis of detailed and comprehensive experimentation and comparative studies that employ emerging hybrid techniques for modeling and analysis. Advanced computing offers a range of new options for hydrologic modeling with the help of mathematical and data-based approaches like wavelets, neural networks, fuzzy logic, and support vector machines. Recently machine learning/artificial intelligence techniques have come to be used for time series modeling. However, though initial studies have shown this approach to be effective, there are still concerns about their accuracy and ability to make predictions on a selected input space.

Book excerpt: This important monograph is based on the results of a study on the identification of conceptual lumped rainfall-runoff models for gauged and ungauged catchments. The task of model identification remains difficult despite decades of research. A detailed problem analysis and an extensive review form the basis for the development of a Matlab? modelling toolkit consisting of two components: a Rainfall-Runoff Modelling Toolbox (RRMT) and a Monte Carlo Analysis Toolbox (MCAT). These are subsequently applied to study the tasks of model identification and evaluation. A novel dynamic identifiability approach has been developed for the gauged catchment case. The theory underlying the application of rainfall-runoff models for predictions in ungauged catchments is studied, problems are highlighted and promising ways to move forward are investigated. Modelling frameworks for both gauged and ungauged cases are developed. This book presents the first extensive treatment of rainfall-runoff model identification in gauged and ungauged catchments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive overview of the challenges in hydrological modeling. Hydrology, on both a local and global scale, has undergone dramatic changes, largely due to variations in climate, population growth and the associated land-use and land-cover changes. Written by experts in the field, the book provides decision-makers with a better understanding of the science, impacts, and consequences of these climate and land-use changes on hydrology. Further, offering insights into how the changing behavior of hydrological processes, related uncertainties and their evolution affect the modeling process, it is of interest for all researchers and practitioners using hydrological modeling.
