Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. (02/99)

Book excerpt: This textbook on signals and systems provides a complete array of MATLAB tools specifically designed for the course, compatible with MATLAB 3.5 or 4.0. This software tool is used in the context of a presentation of systems concepts and analysis techniques. Use of MATLAB helps students to understand what the mathematical abstractions represent, which helps them to understand the behavior of a variety of systems. In response to a wide range of signal inputs. The software provides students with instantaneous feedback which encourages them to explore problems further. Topics covered in the text include signals, systems, convolution, Fourier series and transforms, Laplace transforms, analog filters, sampling, the discrete-time Fourier transform (DTFT), FFT, z-transforms and digital filters. All basic concepts are illustrated by worked examples. End-of-chapter problems include simple drills as well as more challenging exercises that develop or extend the concepts covered. A unique (but optional) feature of this text is the software supplied on disk which contains ready-to-run demonstrations, interactive programs and full-fledged general purpose programs. ..The software runs under MATLAB and includes routines developed for plotting functions, generating random signals, regular and periodic convolution, analytical and numerical solution of differential and difference equations, Fourier analysis, frequency response, asymptotic Bode plots, closed form expressions for Laplace and z-transforms and inverse transforms, classical analog filter design, sampling, quantization, interpolation, FIR and IIR filter design using various methods, and more. So as not to affect the continuity and logical flow of the text material, the programs are described and used only in the accompanying documentation on disk. A MATLAB appendix to each chapter lists the appropriate programs, and each section that can be tied to the software is marked.

Book excerpt: Electronic Devices for Analog Signal Processing is intended for engineers and post graduates and considers electronic devices applied to process analog signals in instrument making, automation, measurements, and other branches of technology. They perform various transformations of electrical signals: scaling, integration, logarithming, etc. The need in their deeper study is caused, on the one hand, by the extension of the forms of the input signal and increasing accuracy and performance of such devices, and on the other hand, new devices constantly emerge and are already widely used in practice, but no information about them are written in books on electronics. The basic approach of presenting the material in Electronic Devices for Analog Signal Processing can be formulated as follows: the study with help from self-education. While divided into seven chapters, each chapter contains theoretical material, examples of practical problems, questions and tests. The most difficult questions are marked by a diamond and can be given to advanced readers. Paragraphs marked by /// are very important for the understanding of the studied material and together they can serve a brief summary of a section. The text marked by italic indicates new or non-traditional concepts. Calculated examples are indicated by >. The main goal of Electronic Devices for Analog Signal Processing is not only to give some knowledge on modern electronic devices, but also to inspire readers on the more detailed study of these devices, understanding of their operation, ability to analyze circuits, synthesize new devices, and assess the possibilities of their application for solution of particular practical problems.

This book was released on 2010-08-05 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic, comprehensive treatment of analog and discrete signal analysis and synthesis and an introduction to analog communication theory. This evolved from my 40 years of teaching at Oklahoma State University (OSU). It is based on three courses, Signal Analysis (a second semester junior level course), Active Filters (a first semester senior level course), and Digital signal processing (a second semester senior level course). I have taught these courses a number of times using this material along with existing texts. The references for the books and journals (over 160 references) are listed in the bibliography section. At the undergraduate level, most signal analysis courses do not require probability theory. Only, a very small portion of this topic is included here. I emphasized the basics in the book with simple mathematics and the soph- tication is minimal. Theorem-proof type of material is not emphasized. The book uses the following model: 1. Learn basics 2. Check the work using bench marks 3. Use software to see if the results are accurate The book provides detailed examples (over 400) with applications. A thr- number system is used consisting of chapter number – section number – example or problem number, thus allowing the student to quickly identify the related material in the appropriate section of the book. The book includes well over 400 homework problems. Problem numbers are identified using the above three-number system.

This book was released on 2005-12-30 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design and Analysis of Analog Filters: A Signal Processing Perspective includes signal processing/systems concepts as well as implementation. While most books on analog filter design briefly present the signal processing/systems concepts, and then concentrate on a variety of filter implementation methods, the present book reverses the emphasis, stressing signal processing concepts. Filter implementation topics are presented in Part II: passive filters, and operational amplifier active filters. However, greater emphasis on signal processing/systems concepts is included in Part I of the book than is typical. This emphasis makes the book very appropriate as part of a signal processing curriculum. Useful Aspects of Design and Analysis of Analog Filters: A Signal Processing Perspective extensive use of MATLAB® throughout, with many homework problems involving the use of MATLAB. over 200 figures; over 100 examples; a total of 345 homework problems, appearing at the ends of the chapters; complete and thorough presentation of design characteristics; complete catalog of design approaches. Audience: Design and Analysis of Analog Filters: A Signal Processing Perspective will interest anyone with a standard electrical engineering background, with a B.S. degree or beyond, or at the senior level. While designed as a textbook, its numerous practical examples make it useful as a reference for practicing engineers and scientists, particularly those working in systems design or communications. MATLAB® Examples: A valuable relationship between analog filter theory and analysis and modern digital signal processing is made by the application of MATLAB to both the design and analysis of analog filters. Throughout the book, computer-oriented problems are assigned. The disk that accompanies this book contains MATLAB functions and m-files written specifically for this book. The MATLAB functions on the disk extend basic MATLAB capabilities in terms of the design and analysis of analog filters. The m-files are used in a number of examples in the book. They are included on the disk as an instructional aid.
