Book excerpt: There has probably never been anything like it in UFO history, but the UFO fever that gripped the small British town of Warminster for about a decade is now largely forgotten. It was one of the largest UFO flaps ever to occur. Thousands of witnesses reported seeing the "Warminster Thing." The hilltops around the town attracted a loyal band of followers, all waiting for the magic sighting, the landing, the contact. The authors were themselves among the skywatchers and spent nights on Cradle Hill, the center of the phenomenon, watching and waiting for UFOs, but also watching and listening to the witnesses and ufologists. IN ALIEN HEAT introduces the Warminster phenomenon to a new generation of readers. It contains a short history of the phenomenon, places it in its social and historical context, and examines the possible mechanisms that initiated and sustained this remarkable UFO flap.

Book excerpt: Historian Gary Lachman delivers a fascinating, rollicking biography of literary and cultural rebel Colin Wilson, one of the most adventurous, hopeful, and least understood intellects of the past century. You will embark on the intellectual ride of a lifetime in this rediscovery of the life and work of writer, rebel, and social experimenter Colin Wilson (1931-2013). Author of the classic The Outsider, Wilson, across his 118 books, purveyed a philosophy of mind power and human potential that made him one of the least understood and most important voices of the twentieth century. Wilson helped usher in the cultural revolution of the 1960s with his landmark work, The Outsider, published in 1956. The Outsider was an intelligent, meticulous, and unprecedented study of nonconformity in all facets of life. Wilson, finally, became a prolific and unparalleled historian of the occult, providing a generation of readers with a responsible and scholarly entry point to a world of mysteries. Now, acclaimed historian Gary Lachman, a friend of Wilson and a scholar of his work, provides an extraordinary and delightful biography that delves into the life, thought, and evolution of one of the greatest intellectual rebels and underrated visionaries of the twentieth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolutionary Metaphors is an exploration of the many occult, esoteric, imaginative as well as creative speculations that have resonated around the UFO phenomenon. Understanding the phenomena as an archetypal challenge to our cultural limitations, the author, David J. Moore, incorporates Colin Wilson’s optimistic ‘new existentialism’ with the recent studies in ufology. The book presents a spiritual and philosophical foundation for the creative integration of our consciousness towards anomalous experience. It is a call for what Carl Jung called ‘active imagination’ and Coleridge’s poetic-imaginative access to the deeper streams of consciousness - that which exists below the iceberg. By presenting a fresh approach in the inter-disciplinary spirit, Moore offers a vision into human existence - as well as the symbolical realities - that aims to integrate our evolutionary minds with a new understanding of reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the archive of the English philosopher and polymath Colin Wilson (1931-2013) was officially opened at the University of Nottingham, UK, in the summer of 2011, it was agreed among those present that a conference should be held there to discuss his work. In July 2016, the First International Colin Wilson Conference was staged with the Proceedings being published a year later. The success of that conference inevitably meant that a second was arranged and held two years later in July 2018. This volume—which will be of interest to scholars and fans of Wilson’s work, in addition to students of philosophy and consciousness studies—contains the transcripts of the papers presented on July 6, 2018: day one of that second conference. Experts, scholars and fans, from around the globe, gathered to hear and present papers on a variety of Wilson-related topics ranging from Existentialism to the Occult; from Robert Musil to classical music; and from Transpersonal Psychology to Transcendental Evolution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author asks if you know anyone or yourself who was diagnosed with breast cancer? If so, even if they made it the journey probably wasn't one they or you would want to repeat. What if it were possible to diagnose breast cancer at an ultra-small stage before it had a chance to spread (The lavender Way). What if you could treat breast cancer successfully in an office setting (Lavender Procedure) in twenty minutes without a single stitch and resume normal activity immediately? What if that doctor had cancer-free survivors going on seven years out, is that a story you want to know about? This book was written by a dedicated and pioneering breast cancer surgeon/researcher. His mantra is to preserve the mind, body, and spirit of the women who have come to him from all over the world. He is the author of America's first large-scale breast cancer prevention clinical trial using the drug Tamoxifen. It chronicles his life's story from his earliest memories of growing up in the 1950s in Chicago to his modeling career, to wrestling a bear a county fair, to his high school and college stories, then on to medical school and surgical residency, and finally his years at Eisenhower Memorial Hospital including operating on First Lady Betty Ford and opening up the first comprehensive breast in the Coachella Valley. His research efforts have taken him to the erstwhile Soviet Union, Cherbonyl, Beijing, and a host of other countries where he has been asked to speak. This book is entitled Sacrificing America's Women Part 1 because there is an answer to breast cancer that is being summarily dismissed by an establishment that refuses change and wants to perpetuate the slash, poison. burn approach as some people say. He served as a principal speaker on President Bushe's Breast Cancer Panel and served three years as a civilian aboard the Marine Air Ground Combat Center at 29 Palms, CA, was awarded the Carnegie Medal for an outstanding act of heroism, and ran for Congress against Sony Bono. He has been recognized for excellence by people at FLIR and awarded two medals of excellence by the then-commanding general of the 335th Medical Brigade of the Army. He was interviewed by CNN for his groundbreaking efforts at breast cancer prevention, holds a Principal Investigator number with the NCI, he testified for the State of California in the proceedings about Tamoxifen and has given a TED-TALK. Yet through all this effort to help the world's women, he was placed on probation by the Medical Board for finding him negligent. It was/is disappointingly enigmatic where he is prohibited from carrying out the procedure he helped pioneer and that thus far has saved bodies and lives. He wants to present his case in the court of public opinion to see if the women of this land after reading about his quest believe justice was carried out or not. Did anyone ever ask how the patients were doing treated the Lavender Way/Procedure using all FDA approved modalities? Sacrificing America's Women Part 2 is the story of how he came up with the idea of using Tamoxifen in a large-scale clinical trial and his visits to the erstwhile USSR and Chernobyl, the White House, and Congressional hearings. it's a story that made him feel like James Bond and Huck Finn. Oh by the way his idea of using Tamoxifen for prevention was summarily dismissed by many noted researchers. The Government spent 68 million based on his idea and Tamoxifen became the first drug to be FDA approved for breast cancer prevention. It lowers the risk by 50%. At least he got something right to help untold thousands of women around the world to prevent breast cancer. It's a story of how your tax dollars are really spent and how disruptive ideas/people are dealt with.
