Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most challenging issues in today’s large-scale computational modeling and design is to effectively manage the complex distributed environments, such as computational clouds, grids, ad hoc, and P2P networks operating under various types of users with evolving relationships fraught with uncertainties. In this context, the IT resources and services usually belong to different owners (institutions, enterprises, or individuals) and are managed by different administrators. Moreover, uncertainties are presented to the system at hand in various forms of information that are incomplete, imprecise, fragmentary, or overloading, which hinders in the full and precise resolve of the evaluation criteria, subsequencing and selection, and the assignment scores. Intelligent scalable systems enable the flexible routing and charging, advanced user interactions and the aggregation and sharing of geographically-distributed resources in modern large-scale systems. This book presents new ideas, theories, models, technologies, system architectures and implementation of applications in intelligent scalable computing systems. In 15 chapters, several important Artificial Intelligence-based techniques, such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, evolutionary, and memetic algorithms are studied and implemented. All of those technologies have formed the foundation for the intelligent scalable computing that we know of today. We believe that this book will serve as a reference for students, researchers, and industry practitioners working or interested in joining interdisciplinary research in the areas of intelligent decision systems using emergent distributed computing paradigms. It will also allow newcomers (students and researchers alike) to grasp key issues and potential solutions on the selected topics. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human capacity to abstract complex systems and phenomena into simplified models has played a critical role in the rapid evolution of our modern industrial processes and scienti c research. As a science and an art, Modelling and Simulation have been one of the core enablers of this remarkable human trace, and have become a topic of great importance for researchers and practitioners. This book was created to compile some of the most recent concepts, advances, challenges and ideas associated with Intelligent Modelling and Simulation frameworks, tools and applications. The rst chapter discusses the important aspects of a human interaction and the correct interpretation of results during simulations. The second chapter gets to the heart of the analysis of entrepreneurship by means of agent-based modelling and simulations. The following three chapters bring together the central theme of simulation frameworks, rst describing an agent-based simulation framework, then a simulator for electrical machines, and nally an airborne network emulation environment. The two subsequent chapters discuss power distribution networks from different points of view|anticipation and optimization of multi-echelon inventory policy. After that, the book includes also a group of chapters discussing the mathematical modelling supported by veri cation simulations, and a set of chapters with models synthesised by means of arti cial intelligence tools and complex automata framework. Lastly, the book includes a chapter introducing the use of graph-grammar model for generation of threedimensional computational meshes and a chapter focused on the experimental and computational results regarding simulation of aero engine vortexes. Authors believe, that this book is a valuable reference to researchers and practitioners in the eld, as well as an inspiration to those interested in the area of Intelligent Modelling and Simulation.

Book excerpt: This book, Advances in Applied Digital Human Modeling, is concerned with Modeling, Biomechanics and Simulation. The benefit of this area of research is to aid in the design of systems. Human modeling and simulation can reduce the need for physical prototyping and incorporate ergonomics and human factors earlier in design processes. These models provide a representation of some human aspects that can be inserted into simulations or virtual environments and facilitate prediction of safety, satisfaction, usability, performance and sustainability. These may consider the physiological, cognitive, behavioral, emotional and environmental aspects. The math and science provides a foundation for visualizations that can facilitate decision making by technical experts, management or those responsible for public policy.
