Book excerpt: This fascinating and timely work explores in detail the changes in the Indian banking sector over the last 20 years, and puts them into a comparative perspective with the Chinese banking sector. For this purpose, the author develops a detailed indicator-based framework for assessing the liberalization of a banking sector along various process steps based on financial liberalization and transformation studies. The key finding is that while liberalization has improved the sectoral performance, it has so far had no effect on the macro level.

The main objective of this research was to identify factors contributing to the satisfaction/dissatisfaction of banking customers in New Zealand. This objective was addressed through three research questions: 1. What type of service failures are more often mentioned in online customer reviews? 2. What are the expectations of customers regarding service quality? 3. What aspects of banking services do customers find satisfactory? To answer these research questions, qualitative secondary data in the form of customer online reviews were extracted manually from Stuff.co.nz and Interest.co.nz, prominent New Zealand online news sites; 1008 comments in total were collected. Leximancer 4.5 software was used to analyse the data. The collected data were about certain types of banking services, which were goruped into five themes, namely, bank account/s, debit and credit card, cash, credit, and service. This research focuses on customer perspectives of banking services. This study does not consider the perceptions of employees or managers, whereas these may have been beneficial inclusions for bank management teams to consider in their planning." -- Abstract.

Measurement of customer satisfaction based on the service quality is to be done independently and objectively to establish baseline for improvements in service delivery. Assessing customer satisfaction periodically allows bank management and policy makers to identify customers’ needs, expectations, perception and the perception- expectation gaps. The current study covers a comparative analysis of service quality and customer satisfaction among the customers of public and private sector commercial banks in Kerala. The research questions that are addressed in this study are on expectations and perceptions of retail customers from their preferred banks, relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction and the difference between the satisfaction level among private and public- sector banks in Kerala. In order to answer the above research questions, the problem is stated as “Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction- a Comparative Study between Public Sector and Private Sector Banks of Kerala.” A descriptive and analytical research was carried out by collecting responses from customers of three prominent banks from private and public sector each. This was done through an online structured questionnaire based on SERVQUAL model during July 2015 to July 2016, prior to SBI consolidation. Primary data is analysed using SPSS (V.21). Kolmogorov- Smirnov Test for the Normality is used to ensure normality of data distribution, Cronbach Alpha coefficient is used to measure reliability and validity is tested with the panel of experts. Mean, S.D. percentage, cross tabulation are used for descriptive and univariate analysis. Structural Equation Modelling, Confirmatory Factor Analysis and regression path analysis are used to conduct inferential and multivariate analysis. Z-test, Independent T-Test, Chi-Square, ANOVA Pearson Correlation, and post hoc tests are used for testing of hypothesis and comparative analysis. Modelling is done using Structural Equation Modelling approach and Path Analysis. The study reveals that the antecedents of customer satisfaction of retail banking customers of Kerala are reliability, assurance, empathy and tangibles. Responsiveness dimension do not affect customer satisfaction of banks in Kerala. There exists a gap between expected service quality and perceived service quality. Study reveals that there is significant positive correlation between service quality and customer satisfaction in the retail commercial banking services in Kerala. The level of customer satisfaction in public sector banks and private sector banks are not significantly different but same. Similarly, it is also found that, there is no significant difference in the customer satisfaction between sample banks like State Bank of India, State Bank of Travancore, Canara Bank, from public sector and Federal bank, South Indian bank and ICICI bank from private sector.

Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: Distinction, , course: Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration., language: English, abstract: Data Innovation is gradually changing the banking industry around the world. Digital banking offers banks new opportunities and challenges. This paper gives a comprehension of how demographic characteristics, social components and consumer perception and attitudes towards digital banking influence its adoption. Digital banking has been developed in order to enable consumers to gain a greater share in the banking market. In Mauritius, there is little awareness about the emergence of digital banking despite the fact that this service is presently representing an important share in the banking market. This is because digital banking is a new industry here, and therefore, consumer acceptance and use of digital banking is still limited. To date, very little research has been conducted into factors which influence consumer adoption of digital banking in Mauritius, and so, therefore, there is a need for a study such as this. A research framework in light of the diffusion of innovation theory was utilized to identify elements that would impact the adoption of digital banking. This report has evaluated current literature and conclusions about this innovation banking technology. It has likewise reviewed the elements, including consumer demographic characteristic, consumer perceptions towards digital banking and social impacts that influence consumer adoption of this mode of banking. This study additionally clarifies the strategy utilized as a part of conducting a survey of 25 questions with 185 respondents to acquire primary data for this study. Analysis of these outcomes was made with charts and figures to determine to what extent the factors studied, influence consumer adoption of digital banking. The hypotheses of this research were tested with chi-square tests.
