Book excerpt: Something is stalking Thea Sotiris. And it doesn't belong in Chicago.Twenty-eight year old Thea may not have a strong connection to her family lineage, but when monstrous creatures and strange voices plague her dreams, she can't help but wonder if she is going crazy. Just like her mother did.But when Matthew, a homeless man with a past more clouded than her own enters her life, he not only believes her dreams, but he can see the very creatures that hunt her. To find the answers Thea seeks, they must embark on a journey together, which entangles their futures more than either one of them can predict. As they draw closer to their answers, they find that the most logical explanation for all of it is the scariest. That Thea isn't from Chicago . . . or Earth. That Thea isn't human at all. This is the first book in the multi-book series, A Child of Light."A beautiful love story involving an imaginative and magical realm. The book pulls you in from the beginning. Thea is destined for greatness!" - Liz Dulac, Advanced Reader"Meet Thea, the independent, sassy and hard working protagonist who stands up for herself and for others without a second thought. Thea's used to being on her own and handling what comes her way, but when she starts seeing creatures that are not of this world, she begins questioning her own sanity. That is, until she meets a mysterious stranger who not only believes her, but knows exactly what she's seeing. She forms a fast and furious bond with this mystery man who she dubs "Matthew", and the two decide to figure out exactly why and how these beings from another realm came to be here.I really enjoyed this book! I absolutely could not put it down and I devoured it in one sitting. Though I started off loving Thea, I was not her biggest fan by the end of the book. I loved how tenacious and outspoken she was, but it goes to show that sometimes our strengths can be our weaknesses as well. A loud mouth can be a wonderful thing at the right time and place, but Thea has yet to master the art of knowing when and where to spout off. With that being said, I loved her connection with "Matthew". Well, I loved Matthew. He was all of my celebrity crushes jammed into one massive package and I was thrilled! As soon as we were introduced to him, it was game over for me and I knew I was pulling an all-nighter. I loved unraveling themysteries with these characters and I am very excited to see where the next installment in the series takes us!" - Lindsay Hall, Advanced Reader

Book excerpt: The book's focus, from which the title is derived, is taken from Revelation 11:18, and opens with "The Wrath of God," continues with "The Judgment of Mankind" and closes with "The Reward of the Saints." A Jewish, Biblical Scholar, Nativ brings a unique, often startling perspective to the Book of Revelation. Basing his theories in Hebraic concepts, not doctrine or dogma, Nativ takes the reader on an exciting, step-by step journey through the Hebrew texts, the original language of the Bible, and through painstaking analysis, breathes new life into the words of the Old Testament prophets, the apostles, and Jesus. Take for example, the word "Armageddon." Long interpreted as the ultimate battle between good and evil, Nativ uses his extensive Hebrew knowledge to show it is a place, not a battle, and introduces the ancient Hebrew concept of a "place of refuge" as proof. Should Nativ be correct, not only will he change the theology, but dictionary definitions as well. Equally startling is his discussion of Revelation, Chapter Nine, regarding the opening of the bottomless pit and the release of the awesome creatures within. Nativ not only explains what they are, their origins and their purpose, but, most surprising, the creatures' present location, as they await the ending of the Age. Perhaps most controversial of all is Nativ's answer to the long-asked question regarding the identity of the "Beast" and the meaning of the number "666." Not only will the reader be dumbfounded by the simplicity of Nativ's answer, but horrified by the proximity. Nativ is not dogmatic. He does not expect everyone to agree with his study's conclusions, but instead challenges the reader to prove him biblically incorrect. Neither prophet nor the recipient of a great revelation from God, Nativ's only claim is the wisdom from God to unveil the meaning of the Book of Revelation in all its complexities.

But when he’s sent to investigate the disappearance of Lionel Maudling, the owner of a grand country house whose heir may be accused for his death, he encounters a home that will lead him to nightmares he could have never imagined. Maudling’s estate houses countless books of every sort—histories, dramas, scientific treatises. But none seems to offer Soter any hint to Maudling’s whereabouts, until he’s led to an arcane London bookseller where the reclusive scholar made his last purchase. What Soter finds at the end of a twisted maze of clues is a book like no other, with a legacy that will put everything he knows in danger… An inventive horror novella from internationally bestselling author John Connolly, this is a story of madness, of obsession, and of books’ power to change the world.

Book excerpt: In The Unseen Realm, Dr. Michael Heiser examines the ancient context of Scripture, explaining how its supernatural worldview can help us grow in our understanding of God. He illuminates intriguing and amazing passages of the Bible that have been hiding in plain sight. You'll find yourself engaged in an enthusiastic pursuit of the truth, resulting in a new appreciation for God's Word. Why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her? How did descendants of the Nephilim survive the flood? Why did Jacob fuse Yahweh and his Angel together in his prayer? Who are the assembly of divine beings that God presides over? In what way do those beings participate in God's decisions? Why do Peter and Jude promote belief in imprisoned spirits? Why does Paul describe evil spirits in terms of geographical rulership? Who are the "glorious ones" that even angels dare not rebuke? After reading this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again. Endorsements "There is a world referred to in the Scripture that is quite unseen, but also quite present and active. Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm seeks to unmask this world. Heiser shows how important it is to understand this world and appreciate how its contribution helps to make sense of Scripture. The book is clear and well done, treating many ideas and themes that often go unseen themselves. With this book, such themes will no longer be neglected, so read it and discover a new realm for reflection about what Scripture teaches." --Darrell L. Bock, Executive Director for Cultural Engagement, Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies, Howard G. Hendricks Center for Christian Leadership and Cultural Engagement "'How was it possible that I had never seen that before?' Dr. Heiser's survey of the complex reality of the supernatural world as the Scriptures portray it covers a subject that is strangely sidestepped. No one is going to agree with everything in his book, but the subject deserves careful study, and so does this book." --John Goldingay, David Allan Hubbard Professor of Old Testament, School of Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary "This is a 'big' book in the best sense of the term. It is big in its scope and in its depth of analysis. Michael Heiser is a scholar who knows Scripture intimately in its ancient cultural context. All--scholars, clergy, and laypeople--who read this profound and accessible book will grow in their understanding of both the Old and New Testaments, particularly as their eyes are opened to the Bible's 'unseen world.'" --Tremper Longman III, Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies, Westmont College

Book excerpt: An accessible analysis of the new forms of work whose seismic changes will increasingly determine the future of capitalism Automation and the decline in industrial employment have lead to rising fears of a workless future. But what happens when your work itself is the thing that will make your job obsolete? In the past few years, online crowdworking platforms - like Amazon's Mechanical Turk and Clickworker - have become an increasingly important source of work, particularly for those in the Global South. Here, small tasks are assigned to people online, and are often used to train algorithms to spot patterns, patterns through machine learning those same algorithms will then be able to spot more effectively than humans. Used for everything from the mechanics of self-driving cars to Google image search, this is an increasingly powerful part of the digital ecomomy. But what happens to work when it makes itself obsolete. In this stimulating work that blends political economy, studies of contemporary work, and speculations on the future of capitalism, Phil Jones looks at what this often murky and hidden form of labour looks like, and what it says about the state of global capitalism.
