Book excerpt: "A Gospel Christmas is an undeniable, grace-filled picture of the gospel message, taught in an easy-to-understand format designed not only for the youngest children, but also for the most seasoned adults." - Adrienne Terrebonne, Author of Mommy Has Crinkles With kids in tow it can be quite difficult to rein in the "Holiday" chaos of the Christmas season. Presents, lights, parties, decorations, hosting family, and all the "plastic stuff" we spend an entire paycheck on can get out of control in the blink of an eye. As the holiday pressure grows, you might wonder . . . • How do I teach my children the true meaning of Christmas in a world that calls it a Holiday? • How do I keep all the fun and point them to our Savior at the same time? • Is it possible to connect Baby Jesus, Santa, and even that naughty little Elf? If you have struggled with these questions, then you are in the right place! Join Jennifer on this journey of celebration and watch not only your children, but your whole family embrace the true meaning of Christmas. This is one family's story of how teaching Elfie a little grace, and exploring the life of Jesus through scripture and easy crafts, took their Christmas from self-centered to Kingdom-minded. "Jennifer has penned a tremendous tool for parents to not only teach but become engaged with their children in practical, inspiring ways that will leave indelible marks on their hearts and lives. She employs all five of the senses to drive home some eternal truths of the birth of our Lord and Savior. One has no trouble at all envisioning wide-eyed children as the day to day exercises of learning unfold. This book will leave you hungering for more ways to make other Bible stories come alive as well." - Mike Whitson, Senior Pastor at First Baptist Indian Train, NC

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Legend of Santa Claus was written to help teach children about the true meaning of Christmas, which is to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, while also being able to celebrate the secular tradition of Santa Claus. This story teaches what Santa is really about without dampening the whole magical tradition of Christmas. It provides a method for helping children understand the difference between the reality of Jesus Christ and the legend of Santa Claus. I didn't want my own children and grandchildren to be confused by the things we say and do at Christmas time that could bring serious misunderstandings in their minds. It started out as just a poem I wrote. When I met George and Ruth Olson and realized their talents in art I asked them to help me turn my poem into a book. This little gem is the result and is my first published book. I hope you find it enjoyable and helpful in teaching your children about Santa Claus without undermining their learning about Jesus Christ. For Christian Children it is not always easy to understand the concept of putting their faith, trust and belief in a being with miraculous powers, who they cannot see, and not get confused between the two of them. We hope you enjoy this short read and the beautiful imagery created for this story. Jesus Christ truly is our Savior and He Lives! I love to celebrate His birth at Christmas. It is my favorite time of year. Merry Christmas!

Book excerpt: The True Christmas Story is a simple retelling of the Nativity story, intended for two- to six-year-olds, to share the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ. Taken from the Gospel of St. Luke, young readers can begin to incorporate the True Christmas Story into their lives and holiday traditions celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. In my home growing up, every Christmas we had a tradition of reading the Christmas story. All families have different ways of celebrating Christmas, and Santa may or may not be a part of that. In my family, Santa brought one or two surprises every year, but he wasn't the focus of our holiday. I don't even remember when Santa faded away. I do remember making birthday cakes for Jesus, and singing Him Happy Birthday on Christmas Eve. And then every year on Christmas morning, my dad built a fire in the fireplace (in sunny San Diego where it was never needed) and before presents were opened we read the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke. We prayed as a family, thanking God for the greatest gift of all, baby Jesus. After celebrating the real reason for Christmas we could dive right into opening presents. Imagine my delight when I discovered the art of VS Sheridan. This retelling of the Christmas story is not meant to replace opening the Bible. But, when I saw her art, the first thing that ran through my mind was squealing children everywhere running with excitement to read the true story of Christmas. My prayer is that each child would have the true Christmas story as a tradition in their celebration... and Jesus a place in their heart. Merry Christmas! Dana S. Chisholm

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don't be fooled by all the different stories about Christmas. It's because the real Christmas story has been under attack. As innocent as it seems, we are in a battle. The battle is not over entertaining our children with stories that make up the Christmas season. It's over making sure our children understand there is only one real Christmas story, and how can we tell a story if we don't include the ending. Jesus did come into the world as a baby, but he left as our savior. I'm not trying to take away all the stories told about Christmas; I'm just trying to tell the greatest story ever told. And it's not even my story""it's God's story about how much he loves us and what he did to prove it. It is my hope that all children will know the real Christmas story.

Book excerpt: This comprehensive resource of five sermons with complete worship services provides a solid, thematically integrated worship and preaching program for Advent and Christmas Eve. It celebrates the deep songs of faith that result from personal encounters with Jesus Christ. The four Advent messages examine biblical personalities, revealing in their experiences real struggles as well as profound joy. You'll explore how Zechariah wrestled to believe what the angel told him concerning the birth of his son; how the prophets searched for God's Word of hope in times of personal and social ferment; how Mary was willing to sacrifice her life for God's purpose; and how the birth of Jesus, heralded by the angels and confirmed by the shepherds, combined fear and joy with divine music. In the final sermon (for Christmas Eve), Oliver links those accounts with our contemporary lives by asking what our personal response will be to the birth of the Savior. Will we allow a song of faith to arise in our lives, in our families, churches, and community? Illustrated with poignant stories and anecdotes, the sermons in Songs For A Savior invite us to hear again the truly good news -- that our song of faith is not so much what we create for God, as how we respond to meeting the Savior and receiving God's gift of salvation through Jesus. Songs For A Savior comes from the heart of one who knows the Savior. Oliver offers these worship resources from his years of helping persons discover the Savior. The liturgies develop a theme for each Sunday, and the sermons weave biblical truths into the complexities of our modern lives, enabling new insights and personal convictions. Congregations experiencing Songs For A Savior will grow in their commitment to love and serve the Savior William R. Harvey Pastor Emeritus, Church of the Savior Canton, Ohio David M. Oliver holds an M.Div. degree from Duke University Divinity School and a D.Min. degree in Spiritual Formation from Asbury Theological Seminary. Currently the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Dover, Ohio, Oliver has served churches in Ohio since 1980, and has participated in the Academy for Preaching. In addition, he is an adjunct professor at Malone College in Canton, Ohio, teaching in the field of spiritual growth and worship. He is the author of Gifts We Bring To Honor The King (CSS).
