The instalments which were first published in the magazine Household Words, were then collected and re-published in a 3-volume book also entitled A Child's History of England. The book was adopted as a text book in British schools and was in use well into the first half of the 20th century, despite the fact that many critics pointed out that the book was not well researched and not always historically accurate.
