Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Shideler Harpes career in journalism and public relations spanned more than 60 years and gave him opportunities to connect with bums and barons (that would be hotel honcho Barron Hilton), perverts and presidents, inventors and introverts, hookers and housewives, charlatans and champions. In his new book, People said, You oughta write a book! So I did., he notes that A few were despicable, all were interesting. Harpe began his long romance with writing at age ten, as a reporter and then editor of the occasional journal that covered news at the elementary school he attended in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since that modest beginning, he has worked on newspapers from New York City to Honolulu. His prodigious newspaper and PR output includes just about everything that can be set in type. The result is a collection of observations, interviews, essays, commentary, short fiction, and great thoughts each a slice of his life which the author shares to entertain and enlighten the reader. You will read about: When Harpe met Marilyn Monroe. Or maybe not....How a mild-mannered New Yorkers stand against crime has failed to result in a simple public safety measure....An obsessive little boy who drove his mother bonkers and his father to hiding in the garage....Colonel Tom Parker, who discovered and managed Elvis Presley, and made both of them very rich....Rousing adventure that pits heroic men against the cruel and unrelenting sea....One mans premature elation, followed by intense disappointment....Putting fun back into funerals....Ray Bradburys Bicentennial tribute that pleased a very small audience.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of the People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitāb) has long been of central significance to Islam and later to the study of comparative religion. It becomes more crucial when Abū al-Fath Muhammad ‘Abd al-Karīm al-Shahrastānī (d.548/1153) develops another category known as “Man Lahu Shubhat Kitāb” (those who possess doubtful sacred scrolls) or “Ahl Shubhat Kitāb” (the People of a Dubious Book). The present book thus is of importance as it highlights the nature of the People of the Book and the People of a Dubious Book as understood in the Qur’ān and Islamic religious tradition. The discussion is carried out both by analyzing Islam as the only genuinely revealed religion as well as by addressing various Muslim scholars’ attitudes and responses to the reality and nature of the People of the Book and the People of a Dubious Book apropos the Qur’ān and the Islamic religious tradition. Evaluation of the nature of the People of a Dubious Book as exclusively developed by al-Shahrastānī is also discussed. It points out how he identifies these groups and how he treats them accordingly in his magnum opus, al-Milal wa al-Nihal. It is hoped that this book will provide a preliminary yet clear understanding of this concept, which hopefully can deepen our knowledge and enhance our perspective on the various delineations of the People of the Book and the People of a Dubious Book employed by Muslim scholars. This will eventually widen our sphere of the understanding of religious issues and any misunderstanding or narrowed perception of other religious traditions could be avoided.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Episcopalians consider themselves to be people whose individual and corporate lives are shaped by the Book of Common Prayer, but aside from worship on Sunday morning, few know what fills its nearly 1,000 pages. John Westerhoff, Episcopal priest and Christian educator, walks readers through the ways in which the contents of the Prayer Book can (and should) shape the lives of those who call themselves Episcopalians. An excellent resource for parish study or reading in advance of seminary training, Westerhoff explores a brief history of the Prayer Book, and the ways in which it shapes us as pilgrims and prayerful people. How Episcopalians live into their baptism, live a Eucharistic and reconciling life, as well as a life of wholeness and health, are explored in detail. All of this, as Westerhoff writes, helps us lead a holy life, and one day, to a holy death.
